Well since the arrival of the new forum i decided i would throw up a thread to post pictures in of what i am doing to my truck lately. I will start at the beginning this is what i started with
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p143/still2hi_2006/DSCN0418.jpg
then it got bagged, with some Boss 20's
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p143/still2hi_2006/DSCN0441.jpg
i also shaved the hood lines and did a cat eye grill
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p143/still2hi_2006/DSCN0515.jpg
chopper mirrors

new wheels
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p143/still2hi_2006/DSCN0546.jpg
SO i drove the truck like that for the summer and fall of 07 and decided that it need a complete redo so i shave a whole bunch of stuff

thankyou, the plan is to get the body work all complete in the next 2 monhths and then paint it, the colour is Midori Sour by Duponts Hot Hues line. Altho since i am plannig a sfbd next winter i am considering just rocking it with primer because of the fact that the cab and just about everything else on the truck has to be pulled off again, meaninig it would most likely get damaged again
Inverter
02-12-2008, 09:42 AM
Yes,wait on refinishing the body.Theres too much handling to risk damage.Looking smooth btw.Put another GT logo on after repaint,it looks good.
still2hi
02-12-2008, 10:05 AM
ya im kinda leaning towards that way, im not a fan of driving around in primer looks very unfinished imo, but i will decide that when the time comes. But i like the GT logo when it was stock but since everyhting will be shaved a logo will be out of place imo but maybe i will get a photoshop of it when its in colour again

thank you anad yes imo our scene in ontario is pathetic lol, i mean there are alot of trucks around but not what it could be.
And progress is being made i worked on it today, the whole under neath of the bed is going to be sandblasted soon and then epoxied and then bedlinered i think, the cab corners are done, the gas tank is raised i just keep forgetting to bring the camera everytime i go to the shop, got a new rear crossmember in, instead of the stock one, the gas tank crossmember still has to be bent out of 1 1/2 tubing

Do you get higher lift or just go up faster, with the valves closer to the bags?
still2hi
04-02-2008, 10:34 AM
i just find it wayy more sensative so i guess its faster, it rides nicer as well because your not riding on the line, you use less air because the line doesnt have to be full.

ok i have been up for more than 24 hours now and this is what i have, its painted Hot hues Midori sour, the drivers door messed right up as i was spraying it bubbled in a spot for some reason, so i didnt clear it so thats shy it doesnt match right now. I also ran out of clear cote so i only have one coat and it has crazy orange peal obviously, so its going to a show i promised myself i would get to this year then i will blcok it out with 400 and clear it again, so needless to say im not impressed right now but i got it all cleaned up and driveable and thats what i wanted lol

truck looks sick as **** i love lime green paintjobs. but im confused u said u was gonnna resand that clear with 400 and then reclear it. i know 400 on clear is usually for base and 1000 is for reclearing. clear prolly wont cover 400 i wouldn't think specially bbeing that 400 is iffy with base as far as scratches are concerned. i just thought u were suppose to use 1000 to get it back to reclear, unless the tech sheet says other wise.
by the way, u went from ontario to ga for a car show.. damn man, where at in ga?? i live in south east ga about 2 hrs from fl.

ahh i got ya...what part yall go too.. u should really talk to him about that 400 and 1000 sanding. wouldn't want him to **** it up and have to rebase the whole truck over. im by no means a pro with painting but im pretty sure im correct about that.

we went to voldosta to get the truck, and i usually wetsand the clear with 400 and then 600 and re clear it, i just finished a motorcycle tank black and it did that 8 times and it filled the scratches no problem, thanks for the info maybe someone else can chime in too i dont wanna fck more sht up, here is the bike tank i did

dont know if you tryin to be an ******* about it or what..i didn't mean u were gonna **** ur **** up in a bad way if you took it that way then oh well i ment it to be a helpful thing. i also didnt see any part where u said u were gonna do 400 wet it just said 400. if u were to do it dry, then chances are u prolly would have burnt through that clear in no time, but im sure u know that already. u can take my help how ya want dont really give a ****. just sayin if you were to do it dry, u should do it with 1000.

my bad bud i didnt know if mean to come across negative either if i did. i just work at a body shop and we do most sanding dry not wet. and i tottaly forgot about wet sanding. and i actually think we did most of a sanding on clear at wyotech wet. so i shoulda know what you were talking about. **** looks clean man...hats off to u if your 19 and sprayin that **** urself. im 20 and still tryin to get it down good. who makes that green?? i love lime green especailly black and lime green two tone. **** looks good man...ready to c it all cleared up. and ya gas tank does have some kinda shine to it too lol :cheer:
99gixxer
07-10-2008, 08:54 PM
wet sand it with 1000. theres no need 2 sand twice going from 400 to 600. when you sand it flat & smooth theres no need to sand it again, because once its flat it wont get any flatter by keep sanding. your just making more work since you have to sand out all the 400 scratches. just do it once with 1000.
your tank looks good, just trying to save you some work. if your worried about adhesion with the 1000, it will adhere good. when the clears already layed down slick, i just pass some 1500 over to clear it again sometimes.

the thing is that the truck has so much orange peal from only doing one coat that to knock it down will take forever with 1000 thats whay i wanted to go with something abit more agressive
ryanthorsen
07-11-2008, 03:17 PM
u should just try it to ssee what it look like..sand wit 1000 clear it and finish if if your still not impressed with it..sand it with 1000 again a couple days later and reclear. ive heard that makes a hell of a shine, never seen it personally tho. ive also heard its a bitch to spray the clear on and real easy to get a run.

07-11-2008, 03:52 PM
ya it is lol, i have no issue with colour ever but the clear kills me, thats why i do it light so im safe, i just have to get around to taping it all off again so i can reclear it, i like cruising too much tho

just thank god clears fixable lol..i dunno how u feel about spraying it on over the base. but the painter at the shop i work at told me when u sand the clear to respray clear over it to get a shine...his metaphor was like pooring water on a flat surface and try not to get it to run. said its very hard to make it go on there with out running. but ive hear from abunch of people that its like show finish. do you do all your painting your self where do ya do it at??

if you have trouble with runs, watch your flash time between coats. screw what the tech sheet says about 10-15 min.
put a medium coat down for a tack coat, dont let it dry too much, come back with a heavier coat, if its still not slick enough come back with a thrid coat & put it on heavy. if you havent waited too long the coats should melt together super slick & not run.
after each coat i touch a piece of paper or a inconspicuous spot in the clear. if you can smear the clear wait a few more minutes, you want to be able to leave a thumb print in it. if it doesnt leave a thumb print, its probly flashed too long & if you try to slick it out itll run.
also, i dont know what your weather is like, but here its so hot, all i use is slow activators & reducers unless im painting a small part. you want to be able to give yourself some time & not have to rush gettin the next coat on.
sorry for the long post but that might help you some.
99gixxer
07-13-2008, 06:31 PM
btw, what base & clear are you using?
ryanthorsen
07-13-2008, 06:41 PM
put it on to heavy tho ull have solvent popin **** from where u put to much on to quick and didnt let some of the solvents out. the solvents will just go through the clear and put little tiny pinholes in your clear.

07-13-2008, 09:29 PM

not good weekend with the truck, we were going to a cruise nite in niagara falls and all of a sudden the trcuk fell a bit on the drivers front and i heard air hiss. So i pulled over and turns out whoever did the ball joints didnt put a cotter pin in the fckn thing so the nut backed off and it fell out of the spindle and the lower arm hit the back of the rim and sheared the valve stem off so i got it all fixed up tho
