Sounds like a good plan. One question though, why are you going to lift it then run stock size tires?

meyer2ml
02-14-2008, 02:01 PM
the stock size tires are 235/75/15 (29" tall) 265/75/16 (32" tall) and much wider close to 10.5 inches it will sit just about like a stock z71

I would buy one. I really hate todays throw away and buy new thinking. Reminds me of the song by Merle Haggard, Are The Good Times Really Over.

OBS Preservation Society it has a nice ring to it

yea i am hoping to have it finished up by memorial day, the biggest step is starting actual work, the other important part is setting deadlines and planing ahead

Didn't pay attention to it being a 2 wheel drive truck. A stock Z71 doesn't sit 4" higher than a stock 2 wheel drive though I wouldn't think. :dunno:

If you buy the entire power package, edelbrock provides you with a chip...

I was thinking of going the same route, but can't justify spending the money on the heads...:jess:

i have not started any work on the motor but edelbrock will send you a chip if you but the intake, cam and heads, i am hoping for just under 400 hp and 400 ft lbs torque with stock compression

Replaceing the cab corners and rockers is not a difficult project if you know what you are doing. Basicly you need to order the panels, figure out where you need to cut mark what metal stays and what metal goes then start cutting out the factory spot welds then get out your cut off wheel, nibbler, torch ECT and start cutting. Then you can fit the panel in to place do any shaping that may be necessary then rivet, weld, panel glue the panels into place then go over any areas with body filler where needed, then you can primer and paint. Oh i forgot you will need to remove the fenders doors and bed. It sounds like a lot of work and it is but you wouldnt even want to know what a bodyshop would charge.

http://www.pershingauto.com for the panels best prices i could find and a good company to deal with.

Hope this helps and good luck.

im sure yall know this but make sure to keep the drain holes open on the rear most portion of the cab corners or youll be doin them agian lol. most people accidently weld the holes shut when attatching the new ones. Good luck on the build, once had a 90 gmc sierra, kinda miss that truck, took alot of beating and it kept on truckin.

i need to replace my cab corners, and the drivers side rocker panel(big dent), but i can't find any of what i'm looking for, i work at a dealer, but GM sells like 1/4 of the cab if you want a cab corner.

LMC truck sells the parts you need at a reasonable cost too. any paint shop should be able to get you what your lookin for

its not really the price i'm worried about, its how much of the cab comes with the replacement cab corners you can buy. like i said i can get 1/4 of the cab from GM, i have seen some listed that go like a foot above the body line, but all i really want is the body line down. i suppose i could cut them off, but would that really even be worth it, i have seen other guys that bought replacement ones, and every one was different, in regard to how much of the cab was included in the new one.
