oh ok, im looking for something to change the sound because its so quiet but Im not in the mood to shell out the money for a full exhaust. Id really like to get a full turbo back exhaust but i hear thats slightly illegal

You could go with a cat-back exhaust. Otherwise a high flow cat, with a cat-back exhaust. The bigger the pipe on a diesel the more sound you get out of it. 4" is normal. Some have 5".

On something like a 6.2 diesel with dual exhaust it might sound kinda cool. Heard one on an old powerchoke one time and it was just a single glass pack with about zero turbo noise even though it was a turbo'd engine and you could hear it some when the engine was worked. Wasn't bad sounding, just not something you'd expect to hear coming from a diesel. Really a straight pipe just sounds the best IMO. The turbo is the only muffler you need.

Cut off the stock muffler and replace it with some 3.5" Stainless flex exhaust pipe.

x2, the CAT will act as enough muffler for what it sounds like you want.
If you don't have emmision checks in your area, running a straight pipe wouldn't be illegal right? I'm thinking about losing my cat and muffler.

When you remove any emissions components, it is a Federal offense from my understanding. I just don't think it is heavily enforced when you are not required to be tested.

Like MoJoe says, it IS a Federal offense. The pollution regulations that require catalytic converters is Federally mandated, not state or local.
