Well after awhile of tinkering with the idea of some kind of 3rd Gen Fbody with an LSx swap, or an OBS LSx sporttruck, possibly a 99-02 NBS, 454SS, and a plethora of other things, I came across a DEAL I couldnt refuse... on a 1993 2dr blazer with no engine. I wasn't really looking for one, I mean, I love them, but everyone that has one wants a mint for them. Rightly so, short wheelbase fullsize trucks will turn on a dime, make great daily drivers, can back a trailer up anywhere, and are all around slick looking rides, especially the http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/3581/botikh1.gifS :D

Anyways... here are the pics of when I picked it up the week before thanksgiving.

This is the "donor truck" 99 NBS 4.8L Silverado.

As much as I am trying to keep this well documented, I have failed. The silverado had a complete dash in it, all the electronics, seats, doors, etc. It was a running truck minus the front fenders and a bed. The guy I bought it from had cannibalized it because he wanted the 02 style front end on his newer truck. I just started stripping it and after a few hours was at the point you see. :colby04: took me 3 weekends to strip it the rest of the way and get the engine in my garage. along with ALL the dash, wiring, fuseblock etc.

The blazer, seemed to be in pretty good shape until I started digging into it.
The driver door latch pin was all screwed up.
latch busted.
door panel wasted.
wouldnt shut unless you power bomb slammed it.
driver seat back is broken and missing the plastic so it cant be tilted forward.
back latch looked like the last key that was used was a crowbar.
back latch mech was unhooked.
Passenger door wouldnt open from outside.

All stuff I needed to fix before i even started "working" on it.

After only about 5 real days of work on it, heres where she is now.

the "finished" specs will be.

4.8L Iron Block Gen3 chevy (truck LS1). I know I'll catch hell for this from the GM guys, but its tough being different. I will say, there is more than just that reason I am going this way, but I dont feel like getting into that here. We all know how I love pissing matches.

It will be breathing through a single custom spec turbo from forcedinductions.com - still not sure what way im going on this. Hot side manifolds should be here so I can start fabbing next sunday.

Intake is a truck intake modified to handle positive pressure, 78mm throttle body, Fuel injectors are dependent on what turbo I decide on.

Pistons are custom forged units, with a few "tricks" done to enhance durability under boost.

Rods... lets just say "HD"

Crank is a "treated" factory unit. most of the longer stroke factory cranks are good for 500hp and beyond, and this crank is only 3.27" stroke.

Heads are CNC ported, hand finished 253 (4.8/5.3L) castings. After reading the flow specs, doing some calculations, and looking at the combustion chamber shrouding of LS1 head on the smaller bore of the 4.8, I decided against using them. the 253 castings will be superior in this application. Rockers are factory units that are sent off to harland sharp so they can do their thing with them.

Cam is a custom spec'd turbo grind from comp cams. again, it depends on what turbo I decide on.

Of course it has ARP hardware from one end to the other. rods, mains, head studs, etc.

ECU and programming is a baseline HPtuner file with the final map to be done by yours truly.

External engine- LS1 car electric fans, radiator and condenser from the 99, New compressor running the "safe" refrigerant, and 99 truck accessorys. I also have external power steering, oil, and transmission coolers. the oil and trans coolers are b&m units with their own e-fan.

The dash, steering, gauges, and basically ALL of the electronics are from the NBS truck. The single "power center" style of wiring is superior to the old school "put a relay any damn where" way of doing things. LOL.

Oh yea, will be lowered too. 5/7 drop and tucked. :CR:

Keeping it 4x4?

Definitely. might even make it AWD if gas doesnt hit $5 a gallon by summer

Grnchev, I can only wish I could work as fast as some of these guys. I do have the core support cleaned up and almost ready to weld. I'll make my brackets for the gen3 radiator and E-fans this weekend, and take it to the powdercoaters (along with the fenderwells and other engine bay parts) next monday. :hack:

I posted this in the 2dr rollcall thread, but figured I would duplicate it here.

I'm just stunned--looks like a HUGE project. What's up with the donor truck? Was it totaled in back, sparing the engine? That thing is picked apart like a Thanksgiving turkey!

_d

LOL! Yea, I had a blast tearing that thing apart. :hack: It was actually a driving truck minus the front clip when I got it. bed and all. the guy I bought it from had a mechanics lien on the title for replacing the transmission, and sold his 03+ front clip to someone that had been in a wreck because he wanted the 99-02 front clip on his loaded z71. all three of them happened to be the same pewter color. this truck was just a plain jane WT with the 4.8, not much $ into it, so it got cannibalized. the ole boy I bought it from kept the bed, doors, and front clip, I paid him the labor for the transmission install, and agreed to dispose of it. I stripped everything off that would un-bolt (except the suspension and rear), surrendered the title to the state, and traded the rolling cab/chassis to a lawn guy for a couple pallets of sod.

Yea, its a helluva project, but im a glutton for punishment.

Almost ready to mount the Engine so I can get the wiring harness started and new ECU installed. I was planning on getting the dashboard installed this weekend, but what I run into is the interface with the underhood fuse center and all that cluster**** of ABS on the driver side fender. without the engine at least bolted in, I cant really mount the fuse center or run the wiring harness like I want to. therefore all the parts that I am going to replace or paint or clean need to be done BEFORE I can start the interior.

Everything pressure washed and ready to start wrenching. Waiting to get the engine bolted in so I'll know where to cut the frame for compressor clearance. :naughty:

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/4149/lsxblazer08wa9.jpg

Nasty brake line that will be replaced.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/509/lsxblazer10mj3.jpg

The start of the -6an power steering lines. Local speed shop was lacking some of the other size adapters friday.

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7964/lsxblazer09lf9.jpg

Im still not sure on the inverted flare sizes I need for the brake lines, I'll get those together and make an order monday. :colby04: After its running and driving, all of the control arms and pivots will get new energy suspension polyurethane bushings. New QA1 shocks (maybe coil overs if I can make them fit)Heavier sway bars, and a factory brake upgrade.

I'm getting in on this one early. Love the rendering in your sig and if it looks close to that with a turbo gen III my jaw will be on the floor.

Keep up the work and keep us updated.

Thanks guys, im blushing here...

Just ordered some stainless fittings, Hydroboost unit and master cylinder, tubing, fittings, engine mounts, and a few other odds and ends.

I also have the LS7 manifolds bolted on the engine with the oval to round transitions. These things are SO CLOSE to the engine mounts, 1/4" either way could totally change the way the hot piping is going to be laid out. if they hit the motor mounts, then I'll have to turn them Up and run the turbo high mount style.

Well.. I fit up my engine mounts and manifolds. no way in hell they are going to point down without hacking everything up, so 1bad gets a high mount. after working with it for awhile and some measurements, its better this way anyhow. the heat is going to be a little bit more of an issue, but service and packaging will be a thousand times easier. :aniteef:

best I could do with what I had. I'm a CAD guy not an artist :D

I decided to start on the dash layout tonight cause from what I can tell my 3" crossover pipe is going to be awhile. If you are thinking about doing a NBS dash into an OBS, don't! For the love of god theres more issues to deal with than a woman that has 6 kids and 4 x-husbands. :whatever:

The camera is still at work, and I will definitely post pics of my progress when i can snag it back.

damn right, and 2drs FTW!

I am now in the process of lifting the body completely off the frame. everything between the body and frame is removed. the body bolts are off of it, and its ready to lift off.

Why am I doing this?
#1 I cant stand to put a nice clean LSx into a frame thats old and nasty.
#2 I am going with the parallel 4-link from suicidedoors.com
#3 its alot of work to occupy my time while I am paying for the bits and pieces of the turbo setup. you know, the 1400 dollar turbo, 400 dollar wastegate, BOV, Boost controller, etc.
#4 its going to be awesome to have a badass mirror-black chassis to match all my suspension parts. :whatever:
#5 its also going to be easier to cut the small clearance space in the floor for the driveshaft and undercoat the body too.

I shall recover the camera from work and take pics this weekend.
