i have a 2001 2wd Silverado. I want to put 18's on it with the Nitto Grappler 325/60r 18. What kind of lift do i need? Dont want to spend to much money. Its going to be for on-road use only. Have a jeep for off-roading. Need some help.

you are gonna need 6 inches. go for fabtech/pro-comp or RCD. they will clear it with ease so you can have whatever backspacing wheel you want.

Whats the biggest tire i could get under that? Do i need to replace my gears? How is my truck gonna last in the long run? Anything major im gonna have to worry about? Thanks

nope. especially on a street rig you wont have a problem with anything. just do normal suspension maintenence. like you would stock.
you could fit 35s with trimming or glass fenders, like Ewogo's truck.
but all the companies recommend a 33 inch tire max. which i have seen and they look good. cause the stock tire on a 2wd is what, 235/75/16(puny:puke: )
as far as regearing. it depends. if you have a V8 and 3.73s, then i wouldn't regear for 33s. but if you tow a lot or haul a lot, then it might be worth it to go to 4.10s. cause its cheaper on a 2wd(part of the reason i will never lift a 4x4 again).

Unless you've got enough money to properly lift it, just make it into a street truck. I figured the bare minimum I could spend on my single cab 2wd was around 4 grand for everything. You'll need new gears eventually (unless you've already got 3.73's you'll need 4.10's probably), and if you're not wanting to void the warranty I wouldn't risk it. IMO the bigger tires will put more strain on the engine/tranny/suspension eventually. I decided just to lower my truck and put 20's on it. I've got the 20's on order, just need to lower it now.
Or if you're not into lowering, for a reasonable amount of money, lift it four inches with a Fabtech kit and put some 285's on there. It'll still look lifted. And if you don't mind a body lift you could squeeze some 305's on there. If you install it all yourself, it wouldn't be as much. Still about 900 for the lift and another 2-300 for the body lift, un-installed from http://www.4wheelparts.com Then the rims and tires, another 1500-2000 at least, for Nittos and 18's.... Not as bad as 4000, but about as much as some 20's and tires :D

I have a 4.3L. Which sucks. But i dont do any off roading so i dont need anything with alot of power. About the rims, i dont know where u live but around the ATL we have 26, 24, 23, 22 and if u got 20's nobody looks at u. So its a waste of $$$ for 20's. But i lik the off road look. I just dont want to spend an arm and a leg to get it.

 Yeah, 20's are a waste of money.. I don't know why I just wasted two thousand dollars on 20's when ATL has 26's. :D :D :D
But seriously, If I were you I wouldn't lift a V6 2wd. That's just too much working against you. jmo.

If you want to lift then lift it. Go with Fabtech or CST( California Super trucks) Look on www.performancelifts.com
Get some glass front fenders and run 35s on 18s. And regear to 456

I emailed Glass Unlimited about thier fenders and they said that i could fit a 315 under the front. But i have a step-side so i cant get that back fenders. What can i do for the back? Change the bed? How much is that gonna cost?

you wont need rear glass to fit 35s. they will fit easy.
and for a V6 then yes you should regear if you go over 33s. my buddy has a V6 2wd with 3 inch lift and 285s, no problems. didnt slow it down unbarably

So then what do i put in the back? A block? They wont fit without anything. So all im gonna need is the fenders and thats it?

your gonna want more than the fenderss. in fact you will need more than the fenders. maybe a 3 inch spindle up front and a 1.5 inch block out back would be perfect.
Brianm

So the fenders and a 3inch spindle up front and a 1.5 block in the back? And i can run a 35 or a 325/65/18 or the 325/60/18? But thats all im gonna need? Thanks

If you want to run 35s then the glass fronts and the rear is fine. The lift should be al least 6" in my opinion to be safe. Then you should regear if you go to 35s. Did you deside on what lift you are going to get? What is your buget?

I cant go with fenders in the rear cuz i have a step side. So im still up for opinions. I dont want to go 6 inch lift b/c i dont want tear up my truck and its a 2wd. So im tryin to keep the lift low.

35's fit in the rear fine, even without a lift, as long as you keep the backspacing reasonable and go with a 12.5" wide tire

There is no way a 35 will fit in the back of a 2001 silverado without a lift. You would have to poke it out lik a mexican truck to do that.

Ok, right man, whatever you like to believe! I'm just trying to help you out here. Mudhungry has 315's (35's in metric) on his STOCK height new body Silverado 4x4. I did the same on my old 2000 Z71 before I lifted it. I've got 315's on my stock HD now, as well. There are a couple of other members here running similar setups.:read: Like I said before, as long as you don't stick the tires out terribly far, it WILL work:damnit:

One more thing...I just remembered that there is a member on this forum with a 2wd 2000 or 2001 Silverado with 315's and just a FRONT end lift. I don't believe he lifted the rear at all.

I agree. You dont have anything to worry about in the rear. The rear wheelwells will accomodate just about anything.

Ok, try and find that guy that only did the front end lift. So then what will i need in the front. Just the fenders? Or a spindle lift. But remember that i want to run the nitto grappler 325/60/18 or the 325/65/18. So either 1 will work?
Fatboy, what size lift and tires you have on your truck.
Fatboy

6" Fabtech lift with 33x12.50x16 muds on 16x8 Baja wheels.
I can run 35" but I have to trim or get a body lift. People tell me I can run 35" now without trimming...but I have to wait until I buy new tires.
