Hello, I'm new to the forum so bare with me. I'm concidering a few mods for my '04 Silverado 4.8L. I'm wondering if anybody had any experiences with the Gear Vendors tranny. Its pretty interesting! Any info would be much appreciated.

You 4.8 wont have the torque to crusie effeciently at NORMAl highway speeds with teh 60e in OD TCC locked and the GV in OD with stock rear gears. Look at some 4.56 or 4.88 gears to take advantage of this.

If you are looking to save money on gas, take into account just how much gas will have to be saved to pay for the Gearvendors price of over $2500US.

You dont need a GV in your truck, you allready have an OD trans.

Dont be fooled into thinking the GV will make your truck a full 8 speed truck being able to do 8 sequential WOT upshifts because the GV doesnt work like that. You can split the 60e's gears, but not at WOT like I WAS under the impression that it does. Most likely scenario is that you can accelerate to whatever speed you want, then click the foot petal thus engaging the GV into OD for cruising effceincy.

these GV units are good for 1200+ hp.

Thanks for the info Pauly. What I really want for the truck is a crate 5.3L HO, I know gas is prices hurt right know but just want a HP upgrade. The 4L60 trans won't last long so then I ran across this Gear Vendors trans.

Go 6.0 if you can afford it, but 5.3's are cheap and plentiful, L33's are fairly difficult to find though. You can get decent power out of an NA 5.3, just get a cam and stall to take advantage of it's 2k-4k rpm torque band.

Just to be clear, the GearVendors unit is a unit that bolts onto the tailstock of the truck transmission. Its not a full trans itself. The 4l60e will still bethe weak link even with the GV OD unit installed.

The 5.3 HO crate engine is a 5.3 with Grafal coated pistins and a different cam it makes 327 hp and 347 lb/ft of torque. You can easily get these numbers from a stock 5.3 engine with a camshaft change.

Here is the 327/327 crate engine.

You can get complete L33 engines here, if ity was an L33 you wanted. The extra 15hp and no more torque isnt worth the extra money that the L33's draw. You can easily tune an LM7 with an iron block for more than 15 hp.

I dont think you can even use a GV on a 4WD truck because of the transfercase.

You can get a nicely built transmission for $2500.

Thanks for all the info guys, the gear vendors tranny i guess is out of the question. After a few day's of thought and net surching compairing gas milage (kinda have to take it into concideration), hp and tranny combo the 6L doesn't sound too bad, hell maybe even a L92, but haven't seen that swap yet. I really just don't like the 1st to 2nd ratio in my 4l60, I believe it can also handle up to 360 foot pounds of torque. I'm just going to sit a bit. Thanks again.

I really just don't like the 1st to 2nd ratio in my 4l60, there is an aftermarket gearset on the market to fix this.

There is?? For the 4l60e?? I know there is a gearset for teh 4l80e to make the 1st gear a little deeper along with 2nd gear, efectiovley making the 4l80e a more wider ratio transmission.

Do you have any info on the 60e gearset?
