I found an easy way to take apart headlights. Instead of using the old blowdryer or heatgun method, use your oven. Pre-heat it to about 300 degrees. Put your headlights on a dish and then put them in the oven for 5-10 minutes. The glue should be real soft by this time. Now just pry them apart!

To glue them back together, I like using 3M 4200 Marine Adhesive/Sealant. Most of the silicone stuff you find in the hardware store is ment for sealing only, not as an adhesive. Make sure you read the labels.

Why do you want to take your headlights apart? Just wondering if they had "yellowed" & you could fix them by taking them apart.

If you have a newer GMC, you can clear out the amber corners, since no one makes clear headlights for the newer GMC's

Just wanted to let you know -- the yellowing on your headlights is actually on the outside of the lens. I work at a body shop and we remove it all the time. Just use very fine grit sandpaper followed by a good automotive polish and the outer cover of grime will come off to look brand new again. I dont know why, but it only happens with the headlights, not the parking lamps. It's a different plastic.

Thats not what they are trying to accomplish at all! lol

I did mine & love it. I even passed a DMV inspection without the ambers when I moved to a new state. My parking light lenses didnt re-seal quite right, and the moisture cracked the plastic. so I'm going to grab some lenses off a wreck and try again...

You have to take your bulbs out to take your lights off. Put them in the oven on a pan for about 20 min or so. and take your time!!! Patience is key!!!! If your pressed for time don't do it till you have a few hours!! Looks great though!!!

i meant the metal that the bulbs screw into, i know on the wrx forums they said to take off all metal pieces to limit melting of the plastic

Actually you dont take the bulbs out to take out the light you unplug the harness from the bulb but the bulb is still in the light itself.
