composite headlights for 88-91 Suburban

As EVERYONE on the Classics board knows, we are working on a conversion kit to 88-91 Suburban...

I was told by my parts source that there were both a 4 headlight Suburban and a composite Suburban....

Does anyone know about this...I know someone will say "call GM" but they are closed at the moment...and I will forget to call them by Monday.........

I don't know about the composite Suburban headlight - I know some guys have put 92 & up comp headlights in place of theirs - but they don't look right -

There is a solid turnsignal lense under the headlights - maybe this is what they were speaking of?

Hey 5-8 do those bulbs have the blue look to them? I have been looking for some and I saw the cool blue and one more from Sylvania at the store the other day.

There werent any factory composites. But some peopel use the lights out of some year caprices. They look ok, but they're a little big so the parking lights are a little dwarfed. I'll see if I can find a picture of one.....

But do they make them for the '89-'91 Suburbans? Those are the same as the '88-'89 pickups.

'87-'90 is the year model of Caprice that some use. They are quite big in my opinion in comparison to the parking lamps.

Another option is the '89-'90 Celebrity Eurosport headlights. They are a bit smaller than the Caprice lights and from measurements I had taken, will work quite nicely.

Yet another idea is the '87 Monte Carlo LS lights. I haven't really dug into these really well yet, but I honestly think that these might be too wide.


Yes, some do use the '90-'98 truck lights, but there are problems there. The new trucks have a sharper angle on the front ends, so the lights are designed for that. The '89-'91 Suburbans are VERY flat. So, if you do run the new truck lights, you have to pick the lesser of 2 evils:

1) Mount them so that they look correct when looking at the truck. But this way your lighting suffers as your lights will be aimed toward the center. That can't be very good for peripheral night vision.
2) Mount them so that they light the road correctly. But then this way they look goofy as hell when you look at the truck because they are angled too wierd to match the rest of the grille.


These are your options. Good luck. Personally, I'd choose the Celebrity lights. That's what I may eventually do when I update my dad's dually.

Just got a hold of a good friend of mine from GM...they do not offer a composite style for 88-91 Suburbans...

BTW, it's '89-'91. '88 still looked the same as '87s. :D
