View Full Version : What would be the best way to get gum off of paint?? bigred305 08-26-2001, 10:19 PM My girlfriend somehow ran over some gum and it s stuck to the side of her car. What would be the easiest and best way to get it off??? Mark 08-26-2001, 11:08 PM hmmm, peanut butter? j/k , Not really sure. I had that happen once, but it was on my Cutlass and the paint wasn't all that great anyway, so I just used bug&tar remover. It worked good. bigred305 08-27-2001, 05:36 AM I was thinking about that, but I just wanted to make sure, because it is a black 2001 Mazda Milenia and I didn't want to chance doing something to the paint. Funk 08-27-2001, 10:39 AM I used blue coral soap on mine and a high pressure sprayer, some dickhead thought it would be cute to smear a piece all over my fender. Lucky I wasn't out there, I may be in prison right now lol :cussing: scrapin' 08-27-2001, 11:16 AM N/M BIRD 08-27-2001, 03:25 PM PUT SOME ICE ON IT AND YOU CAN POP IT OFF WITH YOUR FIMGER ALSO IF YOU GET IT IN THE CARPET PUT ICE ON IT IT WILL BREAK LOOSE HOPE THIS HELPS:) :) 1badgmc 08-28-2001, 11:33 AM Ok, we know about gum now. What about duct tape adhesive? I'm guessing a piece of duct tape got caught in the open sunroof on my wife's car and then when she closed it, it closed with the sunroof. She drive with it sticking out the front seam of the sunroof and it was flapping around all over the roof of the car and left sticky crap everywhere that I need to get off. Think the WD-40 trick will work here too? CKTA 08-28-2001, 11:44 AM Yup, that or this stuff called "GOO-GONE" you can get it in food stores. 1badgmc 08-28-2001, 11:48 AM Cool. I got plenty of WD-40 layin around! :D My dad had suggested polishing it off. :dunce: Ummm...no. That just sounds like too much work to me. Polish doesn't break stuff down. 93 Silverado 08-29-2001, 11:19 PM Neverdull it 1badgmc 08-30-2001, 07:30 AM Originally posted by 93 Silverado Neverdull it  uhhhhhh.....yeah....I bet that's real safe for the paint. Loki 08-30-2001, 07:44 AM I used WD-40 to get my decalls off, and it seemed like it worked okay, and didn't hurt the paint, somebody suggested Goo-Gone, How does that work? CKTA 08-30-2001, 08:03 AM That was me:D And it works great! That is what it was made for. Most supermarkets carry it, it is a small bottle usually by the shoe polish:confused: Hey, it works what else you want from me?:p :D BTW, 1bad I wash my trucks w/ 100 grit sand-paper so I can only assume never-dull works great! :dunce: ;) 1badgmc 08-30-2001, 08:16 AM Originally posted by CKTA 1bad I wash my trucks w/ 100 grit sand-paper so I can only assume never-dull works great! :dunce: ;) I've heard that works wonders! :D But someone told me that 60 grit works even better. :dunce:  CKTA 08-30-2001, 08:18 AM Only on an electric sander!:D By hand, I recomend the 100.;) followed up by gravel for the "just washed" shine!:D 1badgmc 08-30-2001, 09:13 AM :D I'll have to try that out next time. :D 93 Silverado 08-30-2001, 11:13 AM well apparently you have not ever used the stuff before. It is exactly like using goo gone or WD 40. Remind me to never post anything in here again if all your going to do is ridicule and make fun of. CKTA 08-30-2001, 11:28 AM Neverdull is used for polishing, and yes I have used it. I can also tell you that I would NEVER use it on my paint. WD40 & GOO-GONE break down adhesives/gum by just sitting there with little or no rubbing. Like I said I have used neverdull and I can tell you it will not do what the previous 2 items do. Did not mean to "cut you up" by any means, but the never dull answer just did not make sense, so I though it was a "smart-ass" comment. 1badgmc 08-30-2001, 01:11 PM I agree with CKTA in that I though your neverdull statement was meant to be smartass. If you have read through a lot of the other threads on this site, you'll know that we're all pretty laid back and lighthearted and don't really take too much too seriously:LOL:. CKTA and I did not mean to go off on you. We were just taking what we had and running with it. We didn't mean anything against you personally:eek:, so please don't take it that way. I must say that the "NevrDull" that I have used was kind of a soft steel wool material that I would never put anywhere near a paint job. I'll stick with the WD-40 and GooGone. Don't be mad:mad:, 93 Silverado. Welcome to our boards and enjoy the humor. Loki 08-30-2001, 01:47 PM all right guys lets not fight http://home.sport.rr.com/munis/lsvader.gif. :D Can't we all just get along. 1badgmc 08-30-2001, 01:52 PM Who? Us!? We're not fighting. :D We just don't want the new guy mad at us. We want him to hang around so we can pick on him some more (j/k 93 Silverado). CKTA and I will put on our :dunce: hats and go sit in the corner now. :bawl: I like your little light sabre guys there, LokiSLE. Loki 08-30-2001, 01:56 PM Oh I know that you guys were just picking the ball up and running with it, and meant no harm to the little fellar (j/k 93silverado) I just wanted an excuse to whip out those little saber guys. :D enjoy... CKTA 08-30-2001, 01:57 PM Hey 1bad, speak for yourself!:p ;) :D CKTA 08-30-2001, 02:12 PM That's our job;) That's what we do!:p ;) :D 1badgmc 08-30-2001, 02:15 PM Originally posted by CKTA Hey 1bad, speak for yourself!:p ;) :D Fine then! Get in your own corner! :dunce: :D justin 08-30-2001, 02:44 PM Hey you two, thats enough! 5 minutes timeout both of you. ;) keep it up and there'll be no graham crackers and milk after nap time for you :p :D CKTA 08-30-2001, 02:53 PM Like you should talk!:D Hummmm....lets see.......wkd*** rings a bell!:p :D 1badgmc 08-30-2001, 02:53 PM I never did like graham crackers anyhow. :p 454ss 08-30-2001, 03:01 PM :Hey:dunce: I mean Doug, No more BROWN pizza for you, unless you play nice with others.:cussing: :p BTW I now have 4 friends.:p justin 08-30-2001, 03:07 PM hehe, wkd**** who?? btw, still no reply. he must be on to us. whats all this I hear about brown pizza anyway?? Loki 08-30-2001, 05:03 PM Brown Pizzas are bad mmmkay.:D:p 93 Silverado 08-30-2001, 05:26 PM Well I understand yuor pts and know what you are talking about. The stuff I have used was a cotton wadding with some petroleum additive. in a couple of swipes it took a huge piece of gum of the side of my truck. It is not like steel wool it is more of a wadding type material. Another good thing to use is a product called speedy 500, it will take any crap off with harming any paintjob. Most body shops around my area will use it. CKTA 08-31-2001, 06:35 AM BROWN PIZZA is..........the best!:rocking: It is Englishtowns finest meal! It resembles cardboard looks and taste wise, but I still love it and it drives Matty wild!:D I think he just don't have the balls to say he loves it also.;) :p :D 454ss 09-03-2001, 11:47 AM :dunce: You just don't have a clue of what real pizza should look and taste like.:cussing:  you think cardboard with brown gravy is ok.:dunce: :smokin: BC Rod and Custom 09-11-2001, 06:19 PM i work at a body shop and we use 3m wax and grease remover to remove stuff such as gum and then we run over the spot with some 3m Finesse It finishing material by hand to remove any scratches from teh rag. It works great. :drunk: vBulletin v3.5.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
