I want to install an air gauge for my rear bags in the overhead console in my Tahoe. I don't have the rear AC option, so I want to install it in the blank plate that's in that location. Anyone know how toget that plate out of there? I thought about just prying on it, but I don't want to break it.

Yeah...Actually a couple ofguys on the C/K mailing list have installed stuff there before. They said it just pops out with the twist of a screwdriver, just gotta be careful doing it.
I haven't had the chance to look at it since my wife's been driving it for the last couple of weeks and I haven't gotten a chance to. I've been driving her Camaro instead.

If I remember correctly, that thing just pushes into place with some little tabs that keep it there. Drop the console and look at the back side of the panel, you should see what I am talking about.
That would make a nice location for some gauges or meters.
I mounted my auxilliary light switch on that plate. Just take a butter knife and slip it in the top edge and turn alittle and work it out. There are only a couple tabs on each side to hold it in place, it more or less just wedges in there. It is so easy to take out don't worry about. Also when you get it out there is tons of room in there. Here is a picture of mine.

Go for it, if you mess up, the part number to the cover plate is 15737207. It's really cheap too.

They must not have changed the console with the body styles. That one looks exactly like mine.

I mounted my Rancho Shock Controller in that panel. I started with an AC panel and replaced it with a piece of black ABS plastic. Two gauges, release valves and a pump switch. Looks great

It just prys right out, there's fout little tabs on the corners holding it in. You can also take out the whole console, there's just one screw in the front and the whole thing slides out. For the mounting the gauges makes one that fit's in place. http://www.dakotadigital.com/cartimages/prd_sm_396.jpg dakota digital (http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=396/category_id=103/home_id=59/mode=prod/prd396.htm)

I was just going to cut that plate to mount some gauges in, but it didnt seem big enough. Is that gauge plate oversized in some area to make the gauges fit?

Try this:

It'll fit '03+ Silverado... not sure if it'll fit the 'Hoe or not.
$125, but it's a NICE, solid piece machined out of solid billet.
I picked up a completely blank plate for aux lighting switches.
