Hey to all, got prbably a real basic question. What is cat back exhaust? I see it in ads, on here, and have no idea what it is. Got a 4.8L V8 Ext Cab 2001. looking for exhaust, want something that rumbles when I step on it but is pretty quiet for the rest of the ride. Thanks for the help.

just choose a muffler, buy that, and then take it into an exhaust shop have them install the muffler and bend the pipe, it'll be a lot cheaper, and then you can get the pipes where you want them and also purchase whatever tips you want:read:

What are you looking to get out of a new exhaust? JUST sound?
I went with just a new muffler after the first 500 miles on my baby(Flowmaster 50 series). Sounds bad a s s :rocking: when I floor it, and isn't obnoxious when I'm at idle. So if that's all you want to achieve, it'll cost around $100 to $150 for a muffler plus install.
If you want performance, you can get awesome (more so than just putting a muffler I heard) sound AND performance by getting new headers and cat back system. I don't think just putting a new catback system will do much good for performance, maybe a little, but it'll sound good, and that's keeping stock piping size. I've heard it could hurt your low-end a bit if you have bigger than stock pipes with stock headers. So unless you have aftermarket headers pushing more exhaust out, it's worthless. One more thing, go with long tube headers, don't waste your money on shorties. It'll cost more, but you'll see the difference.
If you got the dinero, my suggestion would be to go with ASM headers, x-pipe and a catback system. Do a search, or just go around to your local shops that do aftermarket crap, and find out which catback system you want.
I'm going to put those headers with a flowmaster cat back system. Probably original 40 series flows. That setup will set me back at least a grand though I'm estimating. But that setup is supposed to give 22 added HP and 25 torque I think?
Like I said, I haven't done this, I just read alot of other guys experiences with exhaust systems on this forum and others. Some1 please correct anything I may have said incorrectly. Just trying to share the knowledge:D
