My brother wants a 4x4 4door Tahoe/Yukon because of winter weather and he's curious how much you can lower it. I told him I'd ask the "experts" on here and get back to him.
Please help because he owns a 2000 Honda Accord and a 93 Acura Integra. He's got them both hooked up (not ricey) but I think he needs a Chevy in the driveway too.:D Thanks.

3" front and 5" rear is the most you can drop the 4x4. Actually you are only limited in the front. The rear you can go as low as you like. Here is a basic photo page of what's involved. I wish I would've taken more, but that's what I got.. When viewing the page, keep in mind the rear didnt drop too far because I installed new leaf springs. It has since leveled itself out.

Great pics Tribal Vision! Thats a beautiful Tahoe you have!

A couple questions for you....

Doesn't the front suspension have a wider stance than the back? If so did you you use a different offset for the front?

Do you know the size, length, etc. of the nuts and bolts you used for the front hanger for the rear suspension? I bought the rear lowering kit used and it didn't come with nuts or bolts and I plan to start lowering my Tahoe this Saturday. Thanks.:D

The Belltech kit I bought came with all the hardware needed for installation. I'm not sure what size they were. we did it last year and my memory is fried from winter. As far as the wheels go. They do stick out a little past the fender. this is due to the geometry of the suspension. when lowered it pushes them outward some(about an inch). I did not adjust the wheel backspacing accordingly because the MKW's only come with 18mm backspacing. I really havent messed with trying diff rims, but you may be able to bring it back in some with an offset...

I figured I'd take a chance and ask you if you remember what the size of the bolts were but it's no biggie.:) It's not something i would remember either...especially a year later.:D
So the front track is wider than the back on the 4x4? So he would need a higher offset for the front then the back, right?

You have a 3-4 drop? The back is hangers and shackles, right? The front is keys??? I don't know much about the torsion bar setup.

Also, you have 20x8s with 275/45s, right?

I must say it agin you have one sweet Tahoe! :rocking: :smokin: :D

I have 20x9 wheels with 18mm B/S. the tires are 265/50x20. they rubbed the fender lip on the big dips at higher speeds until I added the longer bumpstops up front.. All good now. I originally bought the 3f 3.5R drop and later I added the longer shackle in the rear. So I would guess I have 5" drop in back now. It is a shackle and hanger kit for the rear, and the fueltank needs to me moved slightly to tighten the bolts on the hangers. I just ran 2 straps from one framerail to the other cradling the tank. then I just unbolted it and allowed it to rest on the straps, and pushed it aside about 10". THe hardest part was removing the old hangers. they are rivetied on there. I used an angle grinder and ground them down. other than that, it's pretty straight forward.

Whats the front drop consist of? Is it just new keys?

Is your Tahoe a daily driver?

Yes, the front is offset torsion keys.. I also advise ordering some new urethane swaybar bushings. you have to take them off anyway. This is not my daily driver, I have a company truck for work, However, I drive this all over without issues. It is not a trailer queen.. except for one show:naughty: all the other shows Ive driven it to..

Thanks for all the help. I'll pass this info on to my brother and maybe it will help influence his choice for his next vehicle;) :D.

Since I'm lowering my 2wd Tahoe this weekend I have a question for you..

I'm lowering it with shackles and hangers in the back so should I cut the bumpstops off or cut the whole bumpstop bracket off or leave them on??

The bumpstops are just bolted on. Pull the bolts and pull whole deal off. That's what I did on ours. If you're slapping the frame, get a pair of the polyurethane bumpstop buttons that Engergy Suspension makes and put them on.

I knew you would pop in here with some useful info!:D

Where would I get the poly bumpstop buttons if I need them?

I'll be running air shocks in the back so hopefully I won't need them.

I put that 50 series Flowmaster on and it sounds good. It's got a rumble to it on acceleration but it's hardly has any interior resonance while cruising. I paid $97.00 shipped from Summit plus I got a $20 gift certificate for my next purchase.:rocking: :head: :rocking: I thought I'd tell you since you were in the market for a exhaust upgrade.

I try. :D

You can get them from Summit for under $10 for the pair.

Nice info. But I'm still only in the market for a true dual, so I'm still leaning toward the dual in/out Magnaflow. :) I just need some cashola. I have so much crap to take care of and no money to do it with. :bawl:

I understand about the cashola! It's gonna be awhile before I get to do anything besides lowering the hoe. My wife just spent about $6000 on bedroom furniture, wood floor, remodeling the master bath, painting the living room, hallway, master bedroom, master bath, light fixtures in the hallway and kitchen and a couple other odds and ends! The house is only 12 yrs old.:cussing: :D I asked her if she was doing "mods" on the house. I guess I can't complain she lets me mod all the vehicles.:D
