:fsg: I have a 1994 GMC sierra 1500, 2WD, Ext cab.
I am going to upgrade my dash to a 1998 dash and i was wandering if anyone has done this and if so how much work is involved in the swap? also, is the wiring colors the same on both trucks? thanks for your help.

i wouldnt do it. sure the 98 dashes look better, but id either buy a 98 or live with the 94 dash. the 88-94 dashes are stronger anyways, so you are better off

Do a search on the subject of dash updates. Myself and CKTA have answered the question countless times on here.

Hey, I'm being nice to him. I was nice to flamed89 too the first time he asked the question. Then he had to ask again. I tried being nice with an attitude that time, but then HE got the wrong attitude. Now he is no more.
:D
who would have thunk it? i know somebody that has been doing this conversion and is 98% done. he said that this was the most tedious job that he's ever done. and he said he would never do it again.
he had to go through with all the new wiring and had to convert everything to accept the new plug style.
but if you do it, you will basically need a scrap truck to take everything. and i am not kidding.
just remember if you do it, you will need all the electronics, and know how to convert everything, and have a lot of patience for everything.
one thing that i will bring up for example, think of the heater controls in your truck, then think of them for the new sytle dash(96-99). how hard will that itself be to deal with?
i'd say just make your own fiberglass dash with the stock compnents that you have and maybe throw in a few new 'autometer' guages or something. it would probably be easier.
but let me know if you want to get ahold of that guy, i'll get some info from him on everything if he's willing and you want it!

It would be nice if a mod could sticky one of these threads. :read:

It doesn't sound like you're being very nice but that is besides the point. I did a search for dash updates and came up with nothing, But thanks for being nice

:word: I had considered a dash update at one time. But then I thought about all the trouble to do the job. Then, after all of that was done, what would I have? A '91 with a new dash, only nobody would know all the time that went into the swap because they'd just figured it's a newer model.
I'm designing my own dash right now. For all the time and effort, it will be much more worth it.
