Ok...I know on the 00-02 nbs you can press the dome override several times to turn off the drls. On the 99's you cannot. Is this feature built into the switch of is it programming in the computer? What I'm getting at is can I just swap out my 99 h/l switch with a 00-02 and get that feature? Any takers?

Im pretty sure its inside the computer....

Maybe if you get a new BCM you can have that option...

Well I did say maybe so dont take my word for it....

I know I saw someone post where they did that swap in order to get some more info/controls that the escalade has and the trucks dont...

And honestly I think the chances of a dealer giving you a real answer to a question like that are pretty low...

Let us know what happens

I'm running ambers right now... I just like the versatility of being able to turn then on or off whenever I want. I figured if it were a simple swap of the h/l switch then I could get one for close to nothing. If I just swap out the BCM with a 00-02 will it affect my truck's program in any other way and are there any cons in doing this swap?

another random question, why? I've never bothered to turn my DRLs off unless one is burnt out, but thats usually only for like a day. I mean if it really bugs u that much go for it, any gm guy will be like u can't do it, or we don't recomend it. I personally would save up and buy something else, like drop or something.

You make it sound like it costs a few hundred dollars or something. You can pick up an Escalade switch with the knob for $50 bucks, may as well pick up the other 3 for around $30-40 while you're at it. :naughty:

Hell if I hadn't given away my stock switch I would've given it to you man so you could've seen if it would've worked or not. I highly doubt it would work anyway. I never really turn off my DRL's either but I do turn off my headlights quite a bit.

See I can get the switches at no charge out of a used vehicle on a local lot that a friend owns. I'm not sure if he will swap out a BCM for me, though. So see, it is a free mod, but I don't want to go thru the trouble of asking him to do a swap if it doesn't work. Turning off the h/l is my concern. Sorry if I confused with the d/l issue. The depressing of the cargo light deal is for the h/l and not the drl's right?

Are you asking if the cargo lamp switch turns off the DRL's / headlights? If so, we aren't talking about the c/l switch, that's completely seperate. The button that turns of the drl's and headlights is the dome override button located on the lower left of the headlight/parking lamp on switch.

It's in the BCM. I put a BCM from a 2000 Z71 into my '99 and now when I press DOME OVERRIDE twice, it chimes once and DRL's or auto-headlamps shut off. I also have auto locking and auto unlocking, as well as 4 different settings for it including disabling it altogether, which I believe 99's can't do.

You can get BCM's on Ebay, I paid $34 shipped for mine, but it also came with a keyless entry module and Auto 4x4 computer.

The 99 and 00 BCMs are identical on the inside, it's just the programming that was updated, but the dealer will charge you more to reprogram the BCM than it will cost to track one down on Ebay.

If you replace the BCM, your truck won't start until you do the PASSLOCK Auto Learn procedure. Basically that involves cranking the truck, it won't start and will blink "SECURITY". Wait until the SECURITY light shuts off which can take up to 10-minutes of waiting. When it shuts off, turn off the ignition and wait 10-seconds. Then repeat 2 more times. The 4th time, your truck should start. Once you do this, the BCM is learned and if you want your old BCM back in there, you will have to do this again!

will only '00 BCM's work? do you know when they changed the BCM programming? was it late 99 or early 00? i would be a little pissed if i found an early '00 BCM that was programmed the same as a 99 ;)

I think BCM's up to 02 will work.
I'm gonna take a guess, but I think the BCM programming was changed for 2nd half 00, but for all I know, all 00's might have the newer programming. You might look for an 01 to be on the safe side!

BTW, Tahoe and Suburban BCM's work too.

Thank you for the clarification. I have confused myself on this. If these features are an easy swap with the bcm change, then I kill two birds with one stone. My initial concern was the drl's, but I also want to be able to control the h/l's when I want too. I know of the 1000k resistor mod to override the h/l's, but was just curious if it was something on the 99's that could be easily fixed without a bcm change.

Hey no problem, glad I cleared that up. I can see why you need this feature, I couldn't imagine not having it, that would suck. Here's a pic I had made before I read your post and uploaded it, so I figure I'll go ahead and post it anyway :D
