Now that I have electric fans that I can set to come on at any temp, should I get a 160* stat to use with my HPP? I was talking with a fellow 5.3L owner at the track an he said putting a 160* stat in his truck made a nice improvement in performance. I was going to flush my cooling system any way, should I pop for the stat while I'm at it?

Jim,
I don't know what it will do to your truck but I put a 160 in my 88 5.7 and it made a noticable difference. The truck idles better and runs better.
I ordered a Hypertech Thermomaster Chip to go with it, we'll see how that works.

On another note... Delco makes a 170 degree thermostat that they don't have listed. If you live where you need a heater to work very good it's a good alternative. Just give your GM Dealer the AC Delco part number and they can get you one.
Have them order AC Delco part number 10220957.

If you do a search on here you'll get alot of your questions answered, but obviously a 160 t-stat makes your engine run cooler. The one from hypertech or any stat for that matter I think should be used in conjunction with the HPP3's timing advance feature. Otherwise I think you'd be losing performance...

I am aware of a 180 stat and the 195 (oem ) stat, but I've not heard of the 170 you reference. Is it designed to work in the older models like my 90? I might consider using it instead of my 160.

I found out about the 170 stat in an article I read somewhere, I went to the GM dealer and they said the same thing "they could get me a 180 or a 195 but hadn't heard of a 170".
But when I gave them the AC Delco part number they found it and said it was a good number so they ordered it for me.
