I dunno if I would go straight to rubbing compound. That stuff is strong and it doesn't take long to take it down to bare metal, especially with a power buffer. I'd start out by getting a clay bar and clay barring the whole truck according to the directions. Then, I'd get a can of Turtle wax polishing compound (its what i use, works good) This should remove a good bit of the "dead" clearcoat and get it shiny again, although it'll probably take alot of elbow grease. After that I'd get a wax of your choice and wax the sucker. It should be pretty shiny after that...

Oh yeah...some 3M swirl remover would probably be good between the polishing and the waxing...

WD-40 will bring back the old shine of your paint, just spray it on and rub it in with a rag.

I used it on the cab part of a motor home, just try rubbing it on maybe the inside of the tail gate or box somewhere and see what you think of it. It will bring some of the color back.

All WD-40 does is make it look a little better with a lot of weird streaks :) Its just like when you have water on your truck, it looks shiny right? Go to your local auto/paint store and they should have all the 3M products. Check them out and read what they do and so on. Then get a orbital polisher this is your safest bet. Don't get the rubbing compound from the can (like the turtle wax one) Its to easy to mess up your paint with that stuff, You want to go easy when using the 3M rubbing compound also.
