Anybody ever used a clay bar? Dude my mom has been after my a@# about washing her car and I finally got around to it the other and I thought I would wax it as well, since it doesn't get washed but like once a year! Anyway I bought a Mothers claybar and tried that out. I knew something had to be done to it cause her paint felt like sandpaper. All you do is buy the Mothers Clay Bar kit and it comes with the bar and a spray on wax. You spray on the wax and then rub it with the bar. It will make this weird sound, but it's suppose to. You will start to see all of the dirt on the bar that came from the paint. And then you just wax the whole truck/car. Her car is like 6 years old it looked brand new. I suggest trying it out.

Yep, I've used the Mother's Clay Bar kit a couple times. It works very well. I think quite a few others on this board have used it as well. Also, the spray is just a detail spray (used only for lubrication when using the clay bar). You can actually use any detail spray with that or any other brand clay bar (like Meguiar's detail spray, Zaino's detail spray, etc, etc.). Glad you liked the results, clay bars make detailing a vehicle that much easier (and they look better after claying too).:D

Yeah I run out of the Mother's Spray Wax so I just bought another brand this time. I don't use the spray wax to actually wax the truck afterwards. I use Meguiar's cleaner wax and then a regular wax to seal it like Meguiar's Gold Class. When you do all of that man does it look good. If I'm in a really good waxing mood I'll use Meguiar's 2nd step polish in between the cleaner and Gold Class, but I find it can be kind of hard to get off sometimes. And I'm dead tired afterwards!

you dont need to use their spray wax for claying.. I use a bottle of water with a little shampoo mixed in. shake it up and spray.. works great, smells good, and its alot cheaper... I would also not use the cleaner/wax.. most cleaner waxes contain abrasives which will hurt the paint.. Give Zaino a shot.. You'll be glad you did...
just an FYI..

Oh really, didn't know that. I'll think about that next time. I also didn't know that about the cleaner wax. I haven't used any on my truck yet though so that's good. Just on stuff. Thanks fot the heads up.
I just ordered a clay bar and some products from http://www.zainobros.com/ this week. First time user, I'll post some pics of the finished product

Joe,
a little tip on applying the zaino. use as little as possible. A dime to a nickel size per panel except the hood. When you think you need to add more to the pad. wipe the pad on the window to see how much you still have left.. You dont want to swirl it. go front to back on the top panels and up and down on the sides. You really wont be able to see it going on unless the truck is a dark color. If you get a spot with a little build up that wont wipe off, spray a little water on it. Also, keep the applicator damp, not soaked. If its too wet, it will leave water spots when the polish dries. Then it will be difficult to remove without a spray of water. Give it 3 coats before you make an opinion. and you'll have your best opinion when you drive for a while and come home and wash/wipe it off. The bugs come off very easy along with road grime..
enjoy

Thanks for the tips Steve. I would have done the circular application for sure...
CKTA told me it goes along way and not to use too much too.
Hopefully I'll post pics before Carlisle :D

So for the record that makes 2 people, plus the directions that will tell you to use it sparingly.
2 weeks from now there will be a post...."Zaino is a bish to get off!" or "Is it noraml to use 3 bottles of Z2 on one wax job?" :D

I'll just out and say it even though its evident, I'm a newbie when it comes to detailing :dunce:
My truck is finally getting fixed, the whole front end is being adjusted and painted. The rest isn't and has water spots, etc. So I want to keep it as nice looking as possible...
1. Do I need to wait a week or whatever until washing/waxing a freshly painted truck?
2. Whats the order of detailing? Wash, clay bar, polish, wax? like that?
3. So many companies...anyone heard of Blue Coral/RainX? They have some "negative ion" car wax...any comments?
Thanks in advance guys....:D

When you get the truck back. wash with dawn, claybar with lube, wash again and Use Zaino Z1/ZFX then Z2.. Doesnt get any better than that..
PS: you wont need to clay the newly repaired area. Just the older areas..
