OK, It was a nice night tonight and decided it was time to polish the ARE BAHA'S.......Started on the worst looking wheel......and finished on the same one!! 45 minutes of cleaning by hand and still not happy! I don't even know how I'm even able to type this post tonight! My fingers are ready to FALL OFF!!!!

Is anyone using any type of "TOOL" to help in the polishing process? Any type of attachment to put into a drill that has a small polishing bonnet on it????

HELP!!!!!

Yupper, Go up to sears and get a polishing kit, it will come with 4 polishing bars and 3 buffs, Then get out a cordless drill and use some blue magic and go to town on them, Takes no time at all this way.

If you get a catalog called "California Car Covers" they have for sale in their auto detailing section several drill attachments used for polishing and buffing tight areas, inlcuding aluminium rims. Check em out.

Try it! The kit from sears even has a small buff that will fit in those holes for the baja rims. It cuts your polishing time right in half. I am also looking into that ZOOP seal. Just not sure how long it would last with the terrible winters we have up here. Plus its pretty pricey!

I only momentarily tried it the other day on one of my worst wheels and it's amazing!!!!!

I had some DEEP pitting type defects from the rough winter we had and it took it right out!!! Still takes a little time, but I'd rather use my cordless drill over my fingers anyday!!!

Here's the link:

SEARS POLISHING KIT (http://www.sears.com/sr/product/summary/productsummary.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0742661015.1053725068@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccijadcigielllecehgcemgdffmdfko.0&vertical=SEARS&bidsite=&pid=00928650000)

And a pic!

Glad you liked it :) its a steal at $10! Once you get them all nice and shinney it will take no time to clean them up if you keep up on it. http://images.cardomain.com/member_img_a/149000-149999/149412_213_full.jpg

I just performed the same operation today. About 5 hours invested and they still should be polished a bit more (cant still see the spots of corrsion, but at least they are shiney again)

what are you guys using for polish? I had some Eagle One Alum. polish (actually a jewlers rouge) . It does a good job, but I keep thinking if there was something more agressive, the job would go faster. then I could finish up with the alum polish.

I'll go out in the garage in the morning and get the true name, but I used a commercial automotive rubbing compound the body shop guys use for rubbing out lacqur(sp?) paint jobs...I think it is made by DUPONT but I'll let you know in the morning.

It really "CUTS" thru all of the "WINTER" destruction that you and I get from the wonderfull road salt!!!!!

Can you wash these little polishing bonnets? Mine are as black as black can be!!!

I was almost (still am) considering PAINTING inside the "O's" on my BAHA's either the body color of my truck or black, just to eliminate an area of aluminum to polish!

yeah mine are clogged right up too. I was gonna try soaking them in paint thinner to dissolve the polish/alum residue, then wash with soap&water. Well, if it dont work, at least they are cheap enough :D

here's a good pic of the outcome of my polishing session. The wheel on the left IS clean, what you see is what the winters do to alum. :cussing:

that kit sucked lol. I tried it this weekend. THe compounds were rock solid and wouldn't do crap and the lil buffers instantly fell apart

Tungsten
03-21-2004, 06:20 PM
Well.... The compound is rock solid because when you spin the buff it should heat it up and make it non rock solid. I have had no problems with that kit. I think its user error.....

BIGBADSILVERADO

I never even used the enclosed compounds that came with the kit. My wheels get so bad from the winter months I end up using paint rubbing compound to "BREAK" all the crud off of the wheel. I then follow it with 3M magnesium and aluminum polish (paste).

Winter is almost over so I know the wheels are coming off again to get polished, need some new lug nuts, and my plastic centercaps are even getting dulled out from the winter road salt!!!

I just polished up my wheels this weekend with this kit and Mothers alum polish. The wheels look great, but how do I clean the buffing wheel now?

BigBadSilvy,

Click Here (http://www.eastwoodco.com/itemdy01.asp?Dep_Key1=mfb&T1=13209&I1.x=74&I1.y=36)

This would make polishing the holes in those Baja's a lot easier:D
