I've busted mine. I got a slow steady oil leak.
Anyone know how much it's gonna cost to fix it?

Your looking at a pretty penny to have it fixed...what happened? dragged the drain plug off?
They will have to pull the engine to get to the oil pan and then put a new pan on and gasket

you sure? I have NO experience on these trucks, but dropping an oil pan shouldn't be that big of a deal...
To get you by I would drain all the oil, scuff the pan, and use some sort of epoxy to seal it up. It might hold for a little bit untill you get that new pan on there.

**Knock on wood** I havn't had any problems with mine. i guess I'm lucky, 'cause I've slammed the front pretty good a number of times. Good luck, man. Hope you get things taken care of with out it costing an arm and a leg.

as far as I can tell there isn't enough clearance to get the pan out considering it's got to drop down past the 4-6" of crank that's hanging down inside the pan...but then again...what do I know right?

You won't have to pull the engine. At most, you'll have to use a hoist to lift the engine up a bit, so you can remove the pan and get it around the crossmember. Its not fun by any means, but at least its not body dropped. Then it'd be a real pain.

Hmm, I was about to say what happened to the "X" braces, but I guess 5-8 explained in earlier in the post. I don't drag my truck much (or may be at all, just a few times), but I would think those "x" braces would protect the pan. Sorry to hear about it. Hope you can get it fixed soon.

I thought that crossmember was removable? At least the one on my Tahoe is.

On the new 4.8s 5.3 and 6.0 chevy motors Gm went to a different style of oil pan. The transmission bolts to the back of the oil pan and it must be perfectly flush from the back of the block down to the pan. When I worked at the Chevy dealer we had to watch some videos that went over servicing the new style small blocks. The GM procedure for aligning the oil pan is to use a straight edge down the back of the block to the oil pan. kind of a stupid setup personally.
