Okay guys something must be wrong. I raced a ford 4.2 v6 5 speed today an got beat by prolly half a car to 80. I know the kid with the truck its got a flowmaster an a k&n. I know tbis arent speed demons but I have got to do better than this. My truck has the mods in my sig. My timing is set at 6* which I have heard it should be for my cam? My fuel presure is questionable but definitly more than stock its near 14. I havent had it tuned yet but if another v6 beats me ill find some money and have it done........Another thing I am wondering is about my 02 sensor. Ive been told that it will hold me back as far as gains go because of emissions? If this is true will an 02 sim clear it up?
Well, that sounds like a bummer man. I don't know about the timing with that cam but I would check it with a light and by ear to see if it looks good (maybe check with crane). I do know that a o2 sim will not help you out. The o2 sensor simply tells the computer if you have a overly rich or lean condition, which for performance reasons you want avoid both. I would look to the o2 as friend not a foe in your quest for power. Is it setting a code? I would look at your ignition system, cap rotor, coil, plug wires, ect. Sounds like you have plenty of air flow and fuel how about spark? Also I would factor in gearing, do you know what your gear ratio is? With the stock height tires and a soft ratio you might be losing a bit of speed off the line. Good luck-

Regarding 02 sensors, just be certain that you have it or them in good working order. They are easy to change. If you have over 40k miles on an O2 sensor, replace it with a new one. Sure some can last up to 100k under the right conditions, but for best performance and fuel economy make them a regular maintenance item. WHen was the last time you replaced the spark plugs, wires and dist cap and rotor? How many miles on the engine?

The trucks got 160,000. I did the entire ignition system like 140,000 but plugs might need it. It ran really rich for a while after I installed the cam b/c I forgot to plug the maf in. On the plug deal...where should I gap them? I just bought a delco 02 sensor...Im gonna go check to see if that helps.

hccp and Don454SS are wise men. 02 sensors are your friend and make sure you keep em clean. Well shoot your whole problem is the gears man especially with that cam you have. That combo is way out the range of the cam. I have a 94 (it had a 350 tbi) and I used run 305 70's and 285 75s with 3.42s. Timed with a stop watch my 0-60 times were 23 seconds + yes you read that right 23 seconds. Im not kidding. I dropped in some 4.10's and I went to 12.5ish second 0-60 times. Now remember these are real world times too. That cam would be mean with some 4.10's because it will put the engine in the cams power band. Shoot I woulda done gears before a cam. Yea they are expensive but in my book they are one of the most important things. If your willing to buy some tools and take a bit of tiem to learn about em they are cake to do. Ive done 3 rears. The last one I set up with about 4 hours and I was taking my time to make sure I liked the backlash and tooth contact pattern.

You would benefit from monitoring your BLMS to see if you are rich or lean at various RPMS and WOT. You might need to adjust your fuel pressure.

Looks like I need gears huh badburban? I dont think mine is 23 seconds 0-60....gawd I hope not. Anyway how much will a good set cost me? I assume I will need the front as well? And heres another question. Should I start saving for gears an skip the tuning or get it tuned then go for gears. If gears will cut 0-60 in half im all for it.
