Hey guys, I got a quick question.

My girlfriend wants to get me a flowmaster for my b-day and all I know is I want a 40 series. I have a 1998 Chevy 5.0 w/t reg cab long box.

From looking under the truck I know I need a single in single out,

But what is partnumber of the muffler? Or what sizes do I need for this muffler?

Like diameters of the inlet/outlet. offset???

If anyone could respond really quick before I gotta call the lady friend and tell her what to get!!

Thanks!!

PS. If she wants to buy me a flowmaster I should probably marry her huh? lol

well are you going to get a shop to do it or are you going to do it? just go to www.flowmastermufflers.com and pick out the configuration u need for the 40 series ORIGINAL

I am going to buy the muffler at the performance/ricer shop and then take it to a muffler shop to have it installed.

Flowmaster's site doesn't help me any as it doesn't tell me what my truck needs, it just has all the part numbers for the different mufflers for up to 95 and for my truck it says mufflers on previous page.

All I have narrowed it down to is single in single out :bawl:

you could get a single in and dual out muffler if u wanted to...if u want a single in and single out take it to the muffler shop and let them measure the inlet on the muffler and the outlet, then tell us that information and we can get u a part #

Well I want a single in single out, and if I knew the inlet size I could also get the part number for it.

Thanks though.

I am just hoping someone on here knows the exact diameter or part I need.

Thanks CKTA! Now what about offsets? I notice on my stock muffler the pipe is coming in from the left side, and out on the right side, (although I guess it's how you look at it?)

Is this correct? Should I be getting a dual offset muffler? Or is that what they are called?

thanks so much!

Get one that is centered in and centered out and you'll be fine. The exhaust guy will do the rest. BTW, I would consider a Spintech muffler.:read:

It's a newer brand of mufflers, I personally like the way they sound over the Flows, but it's your truck so you get what you want.

Hmmm well to be honest now I don't know what to do.

The shop just called and said they have no 40 series, but they feal bad and will sell me a 50 series for 60 bucks Canadian which is about 30ish american and it is new.

They said they have one dual offset 3 in 3 out so should I go with it???

Oh the confusion:whatever:

Do you mean dual 3" outlets? If so that is pretty big. Also what do you want to do as far as pipes? Out the rear? Dumps? side exit? If you plan on lowering the truck and want exhaust that goes out the back I woul'nt get that. I would get 2-1/2" dual exit muffler then.

Oh sorry, no what I mean was the stock muffler has the inlet pipe on the left and the outlet pipe on the right.

So the shop said just to get a dual offset muffler.

It's a single 3 inch in and then 3 inch out. As far as piping right now I will keep the stock set up but down the road I am just going to dump it when I lower the truck.

Then if that's what you want , get it. The exhaust shop will be able to install the dual off set w/ no problem.

Well to be honest, I don't know what I want. I have yet to hear a 40 series or 50 series on a truck like mine.

I really don't want an annoying truck that sounds WAY to loud, especially in the cab with high resonance, so I am thinking maybe the 50 series is the way to go. However at the same time I don't want a muffler that's to quiet. Arggg:head:

get the 50 series and have them dump it while they are there...to have it dumped shouldn't be but like $30 and it will make it easier for them as well...the 50 series dumped should be loud enough without being annoying.

I have a spintech 3" in 3" out. Good performance. great sound outside, no rice drone inside. I replaced my original 40 series.

Check out the website!

I have 50 series on my 97 5.7 with the stock setup

Dual in single out

I think it sounds wimpy at best.

Had a 92 with a 40 series that sounded much better! Throatier,

no resonance that I noticed.

Go louder with the 40 series! You will like it!

Thanks a lot for the advice guys.

I went with a 40 series 3 inch single in single out.

Cant wait to get it installed!!!

Apparently the orginal 40 series are discontinued in my size so I had to go with the delta flow, but they assured me it just lowered the resonance in the cab. I sure hope it sounds good:D

I had a Flowmaster Stainless Steel 50 Series Delta flow installed in place of my stock muffler. It was a single 3" offset in and out. Take note: I have 3.08 gears so I hardley ever go over 2000 RPM when driving. I felt the truck sounded better when I first had it put on, but now??? I don't know, maybe since the computer adjusted the throttle response isn't as quick as I first noticed. I could be just getting use to it though.

The nice thing, when I first had it put on I drove past a parked ricer while excellerating and set off his alarm? he he he he

One thing is certain, you can hear me coming down the road. The interior noise is almost (zero) at cruising speeds...again I have the 3.08 gears...I turn less RPM's. For me... a family man I don't think I would want anything louder.

hehe....settin off ricer's alarms

What did you do about an exit? I am considering just having it dumped, but at the same time I am thinking maybe I will just get a nice tip welded on the stock pipe and leave it at that. I guess whatever is cheaper :D
