I want a LOW DEEP rumble...Yeah, I know its just a 327 :-)
But with the 5.3 what is the best exhaust to go with for that awesome sound?
I dont want the loudest, just a nice mellow rumble:devil:

Welcome :D

I have a single Flowmaster 40 on my 5.3l Sierra. Checkout the soundclip if you're interested: 5.3l Flowmaster 40 (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/00gmc/00gmc_flowmaster40.wav) :D

For the 40 series he didnt mention if it would be a delta or original
..which one is better? Is the 50 series quieter than the 40?
Gmcjoe, is that your truck on the sound clip? If so that sounds good :-)

I have a single mello tone muffler on my 5.3 and it sounds great. I am putting dual mello tones on it as soon as I get home from Kuwait. I had dual 40 series Flows on my SS Impala and they sounded great but had too much drone in them in overdrive. They were in the stock position on the car and cruising down the highway in overdrive, they were just about enough to run you out of the car. The mello tones are warrantied for as long as you own the vehicle(flows 1 year), are made of a thicker gauge metal(flows rust out too easy), they sound just as good, and they cost me 60 dollars installed versus 100 for the flows. So far by my equation, the mello tone is the better muffler. They are designed pretty much off of the same design as the flow so you will get a nice deep rumble.:D

Where do you get mello tones? Is that the brand name? I'll do a search and see what comes up...So you are in kuwait? What do you do? I just got back from 4 months at Al Udeid, Qatar.. I'm in a Weapons troop in the AF...Was looking for trucks online in my spare time there and ended up just getting a truck from a local dealership here. LOL Its everything I wanted except I was hoping I could find one with flowmasters already installed...

buzz 1560, I am a Military Police officer in the Army. I am at Arifjan. We are an EPW(enemy prisoner of war)BN but since they all decided to die or run away, we didn't have a job, so they have us doing customs now. Mello-Tones are manufactured in McMinnville, Tn and I believe that you should be able to get them anywhere by ordering them. Look on google and you should be able to locate them. I probably won't get to do anything to my truck for awhile since we will be here forever. You will like Mello tones I guarantee. They sound better than a flowmaster I think because they don't have the tin can sound that flows are famous for because of that thin gauge steel I mentioned in the other post. Let me know what you find out. By the way, isn't the communications technology in the military great now? In Desert Storm talking to your family was hard to do. Now I get to talk to my wife everyday on the phone and get to chat on :fsc:

buzz 1560, I looked online for awhile and I think that I found a name and a phone number you can try for the mufflers. The address to the place sounds right. Metal Masters Unlimited (931) 473-1012. I believe that will help you out.

the delta flow part of the flowmasters takes away most of that high pitched tin can sound.

delta flow 40's sound very deep on 5.3s with minimal interior resonance.

now i have a 10 series flow on my 94, its VERY deep and loud and LOTS of interior sound. :D

i have 2 original flow 40s on my 5.3. 3 or 4 shops while i was getting estimates on the work kept trying to tell me it is going to be way too loud, but sometimes i find myself rolling down the windows so i can hear it better. :) outside its really loud when i get on it, but inside, its usually just the right amount. mine are mounted under the bed, almost to the tire humps, so im sure that helps some.

on road trips, with the stereo at a moderate level, i dont think i hear them at all.

Anybody have any original sounds clips from a 50 series?

Couldnt find mello tones and heard flows would be too loud in OD
So I went with a dynomax ultraflo..Its basically and turbo with fiberglass matting...It sounds great at idle although I wish it was slightly louder...Once you get on thee gas it really sounds sweet, but not too loud. In OD it is not very loud or droning..Satisfied with this muffler, wondering if I could have lived with something a little louder though ;-)
