View Full Version : 6.0 Folks with Flowmaster 40 Series, Help?
I hate to ask a question that may have been answered, but I have spent two days searching and havent quite found the answers to these questions.
1. What size pipes are comming into the stock muffler on a 2002 fsec 2500 with a 6.0? I think I seen that they were 2.5" is this right?
2. Does flowmaster make a 40 series muffler that will bolt up to the pipes and allow me to dump right after the muffler? The closest I have seen at a local speed shop was a dual in dual out for 2.25" pipes, I know the exhaust guy can manipulate but that adds $.
3. Has anyone done it? How does it sound?
and lastly,
4. Where can I get a good deal on flowmaster mufflers? The only place I found that had them wanted $100, and I found a guy that would install it for $60.
again I apologize if my questions have been answered elsewhere, but I have finally given up on searching :)

I have a rcsb 1500 so I can't really help ya, except that my 5.3 uses 2.75" piping. I would think its the same for the 6.0:think:
I have two pipes comming into my muffler, then one pipe comming out. Is that the same setup you have?

No I just have one pipe going in the muffler, one out. Maybe your piping is smaller since you have two in.

i was told that 6.0 trucks have dual 3 inch pipes going into the muffler.
and not to be an ***. but if you have the truck why not go measure it :read:  :D

My 03 has dual 3" going into the muffler. I'd imagine yours is the same. I can't help much with the muffler situation. I'm still trying to decide what to go with myself.

No calipers here, I guess I could have measured the circumference but then I would have to divide by 2pi.
I ended Up ordering 2 flowmaster 40 series delta flows with 3" in 3" out, they should be here in a couple of days and when I get em on I'll let yall know how they sound.
Thanks for all the answers :)

divide by PI :D
PI * D = circumfrence
I was thinking 2*pi*r, at least thats how I remember the formulas. :smokin:
I would have figured it out sooner or later, also I would need a cloth tape measure.

just let us know how it sounds, i stopped at a shop today, for my 2002 2500hd, the guy wanted 200 bucks just for the magnaflow, 2in 2 out. i think i can find better online for sure. but as with the muffler, i was just thinking how loud it would be, just want a nice low rumble and next to nothing when cruising and not accelerating.

large case magnaflow and gibson are quiet mufflers for cruising.
ptown- doesnt your truck also have a SINGLE 3 inch exit? if so then i think true duals are going to be over kill. the factory probably counted on the muffer and that single exit to provide backpressure

Yep, 3" single exit. Backpressure does nothing but rob horsepower. Anyone with a dyno will tell you so. The whole point in getting aftermarket exhaust is to let the engine flow more easily. I'll be doing some performance mods, anyway:naughty:
Well everything is said and done here is what I found out.
The pipes comming into the muffler on a '02 2500 with a 6.0L are 2 3/4" The pipe comming out is 3" You will need offset input, center out mufflers.
I had the guy put the 3" center in center out mufflers on anyway. He did a real nice custom job, had me watch the whole thing to make sure it was the way that I wanted it etc... Only cost me $60 bux to have it installed. If I had it to do over I would have bought the 2 3/4 in and out mufflers to save a little headache, and the offsets so I would have to bend the pipes any.
The sound, let me say that so far it isn't as loud as what I had hoped for. I had a '98 Camaro SS and had the Loud Mouth exhaust on there, and this system is about half as loud from the cab. I havent heard it from outside so I can't say how loud it is while driving. I can say that when I pulled in the garage my wife had thought that I did buy my old car back, but take her opinion for what its worth
I have heard that flows will get louder the more you drive em, which doesn't exactly make sense to me, unless it has to do with heat cycling them and maybe some expansion goes on but we will see.
Thanks for all the help folks!!!

Thanks for the write up. It'll help me when I decide what to go with. Did you put an x-pipe in? and did you use dumps after the mufflers?

how bout someone with a 6.0 hd post a sound file. have heard the smaller engines, but wondering how the 6.0 sounds.
P-Town: No I didn't do an x-pipe, I read a write up on the gto exhaust, and by leaving your pipes unequal in length you get a real mellow alternating tone, which I dig.
Yeah the guy welded dumps from the muffler as well. Nothing fancy just about a 18" piece of 2.5" pipe bent down 30* I had him use 2.5" So as to not loose all the backpressure. Although I don't know if it mattered.
The sotp feel is better, I know I have gained tq since I can spin the tires alot easier now.
mnurse: I will see what I can do to pull a sound clip. Don't have a lappy yet, but am looking to buy one soon for the next mod LS1 Edit.
