I'm working on adding two subs and amp to my silverado.I purchased one of the boxes that goes under the rear seat and holds two 10's.I have everything ready to go except the rca outputs from the radio.I contacted PAC, to see if they had a harness for my truck yet.Unfortunately, they won't have what I need available for 30-60 days if all goes well.I don't want to wait that long. Can I try to use a regular line level converter?Anybody have experience splicing into the factory wiring on these new systems?People are saying it's too hard, but I figure it can't be that bad.I Don't have onstar if that makes a difference.Any pointers on taking radio out? What wires are for which speakers for splicing? Thanks

I'm just finishing up my own installation in a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD CC. I made a sealed box to fit behind the rear seat for a Rockford Fosgate DVC 8" driven by an amp with speaker high level inputs. I've installed the box and right now all I have to do is hide my splices into the factory wires for the rear doors. I tried to splice into the wires under the center console, but all I ended up doing was killing the output to the rear doors. So, I pulled the sill covers in both front door openings and I spliced into the rear door wires there (blue/lt. blue and brown/yellow wires). I found that if I connected my wires when the system was turned off I would lose my rear door speakers. When I tapped into the wires when my system was on, they would stay on. So, somehow the signal processor/amp under the console is able to detect the load on the output wires. The reason I chose the rear speakers as inputs for the sub is because if I want to listen to music when passengers want to watch a DVD, then the power will be cut to the rear speakers and sub. Hope this helps... BTW, where did you find an enclosure pre-fabbed for under the rear seat?

I found the box on ebay. The user name of the seller was musicmoose. He has many kinds available as well as the crew cab.I should be getting the box delivered tomarrow,so can't comment on the quality and fit yet.He will do a custom color for an extra 20 bucks.I went with tan.The price was 139.00 plus color change and shipping.I could have made one for under the seat since I''m a carpenter by trade, but didn't have time.
Unfortunately my amp doesn't have high level inputs.Does that mean I can splice into the same wires you did and use that source for my line- level converter.Maybe the factory amp will detect too much load? I'm not quite sure how the power is cut to the rear speakers and sub when passengers watch a dvd? What makes the rear shut off?
Thanks

You'll have to disregard my previous post, because when I went out ot my truck today I had no sound to the rear speakers again. So, I'll just have to wait for the PAC plug and play kit and they told me it would be ready in 2-3 weeks just today.

It appears that the Bose system is detecting the additional load and killing the output. The amplifier is also a signal processor and it automatically kills the sound to the rear channels when the rear audio controls are enabled. I think I mentioned that the rear speakers turn off when the DVD is playing, but that's only when the RSE is selected on the rear seat audio controls. I apologize for not making that clearer.

Some bose systems have an amp built-on to each speaker. This means that if you want to use the line out converter, you have to catch it after the amp. Try connecting the converter directly to the speaker. Since your running subs off the amp, you only have to connect the converter to one speaker. Twist the 2 positive wires together and the 2 negative wires together. Then connect the converter to the speaker.

Thanks for the reply sfakeith, but this system only has 1 amp. I believe this has a lot to do with the upgrades to the Class 2 radio that GM uses and the Bose amp. I did tap into the wires after the Bose amp and I had the problems mentioned above. I'll dish some money out to PAC before I do anymore splicing.

That sucks.I was looking forward to trying it this weekend.I'm glad they told you 2-3 weeks, much better then the possible 60 days or more they told me for the pac.
Any other ideas out there or are we out of luck for a while.
Thanks
Jay

I still think it is worth a try. Try using only one speaker like I mentioned above and tap in directly at the speaker. To my knowledge, there are no wiring diagrams for the new bose system yet, so connecting directly to the speaker is the only way to know for sure that you are connecting to high level outputs.
