Does anyone have an 03 truck or 02-03 Vette with the electronic climate control system, the one you can set the temperature with?

In my 03 sierra I CANNOT use recirculated air WITHOUT the air conditioning automatically going on.

For example: The a/c is off and I hit the recirculation button. Then the a/c off symbol disappears and the a/c is automatically turned on.

Has anyone had this problem? Is this a problem or is the just the way GM vehicles work?

The dealership guy and mechanic told me that there is no way to run the recirculated air without the a/c automatically coming on.

I was wondering the same thing. I just want the vent on and windows down but there is always cold AC coming through unless it is shut off completely. Can't figure the setting out yet either.

I was going to read the manual but that would mean reading the instructions and that goes againts everything I believe in! I'll just keep fiddling with it until I figure it out in the next year or so!

According to a guy on the LS1tech.com board his z28 does the same thing and this is just something that Chevy/GMCs do. Oh, well, at least I know that nothing is wrong with my/our truck.

My fathers Corvette does this as well and his previous one (2000) I believe did it too, he said it's normal, kinda a pain but normal:read:

yep thats what I thought. It is kind of annoying but not really a big deal. I LOVE the ac in my truck, especially its dual zone feature that allows me to have the ac on while my girlfriend keeps warm in the passenger seat.

What is it with women do most of them always get cold? I guess its all my muscle that keeps me warm :D

Why would you wanna recirculate the same air over and over?
The a/c proably cleans the air or something like that....

I would think that you would want fresh air from outside...:whatever:

hmm lets see I could actually think of many reasons why I would want to use recirculated air but the main one is below!

1.) if I am behind a huge school bus spewing out black diesel exhuast and I have the air on recirculated air I wont be breathing that smoke. IF I have the outside air venting on and NOT recirculated air then I will have to breath that nasty crap.

Since I live in Los Angeles I often sit in traffic (fun fun) so using the recirculated vent option is my only way (along with keeping the windows rolled up), to prevent all the car exhaust from coming into my car.

Anyway thanks for the post MacaDaDay :assclown:

Hey I got a idea.... you like to recirculate air so much... so stick a bag over your head and get it over with :gay: :gay: :windowlic

It is obvious that you didnt bother to really read and consider the previous posts BEFORE posting your original comment. Thats probably why you couldnt figure out why anyone would want to run recirculated air.

No big deal. Its just annoying that your original post was using some "whatever" icon and was basically pointless. :assclown:

I hear ya, the only way I can recirculate to my knowledge is to push the ac max button.... but then again I havn't really played around with it too much, messing with the ac scares me... afraid it will go out :(

The AC comes on to reduce the humidity in the recirculated air. If you turn on your window defogger, the AC most likely kick in as well.

If it really bothers you, then you could put a compressor cutout switch in the dash. Just splice into the wires that go to the compressor clutch and put a toggle switch on your dash. Who knows if this will make any of the computers angry in the new trucks, but it's worth a shot. Also, running the recirculated air also is more efficient (i.e. better gas mileage) because the A/C only has to cool air from the inside of the truck, not the warmer air from the outside.

Yea that switch is an idea BUT I can live with the system features.

I agree with you about the a/c efficiency thing though. Anytime I have the a/c on I ALWAYS leave the recirculated air on since it blow way cooler/harder this way. In fact with any car/truck leaving the a/c on with recirculated air has always seemed to work best.

Its amazing how many responses have been posted to this question! Its great that I got a clear answer! I guess since summer is coming up soon this question is very valid.

i've heard that it's not good to run the recirculated air all the time, something about it causing the air to get "old" and "stale" and thre being a greater chance of nasty stuff being able to grow in your AC ducting. Is there any truth to this at all?

Perhaps, but aren't there filters inside that you can replace?
I have a little bottle of this stuff that u pour a couple drops down the vent from outside your truck, and it supposedly disenfects the air ducts...dunno. But it does give off a nice minty fresh smell :D
