Hey guys im sure you have heard this before, and hopefully someone can help me. I've got a 95 Yukon with 6 1/2's up front and 4x10's in the rear. My question is, Have any of you cut and fit 6x9's into these slot's. I think it shouldnt be a problem puttin them in, just worried about them being to deep and hitting the roof metal. Anybody done this?

I put some pioneer 6x9's in the rear of my '95 Yukon...

I used the stock metal brackets and just cut the holes larger. I had to bend them downwards a little to make sure the magnets on the new speakers don't attach themselves to the roof of the truck . Just for good measure, I put a piece of 2" PVC pipe near each speaker; the pipe pushes the speaker/interior downwards, making the speaker clear and adding a lot of extra air space for the speaker to work.

I'm satisfied with the fit of the 6x9's, but for some reason they just thud and sound horrible with a lot of bass. I don't think there is enough air space behind the speaker to really let it shine. I know they're good speakers, because I have the exact same set in the rear of my car, and they really sound great (since they have all of the trunk air space for a speaker box). I'm still working on solving the 'no bass' problem, but other than that, they're fine. For now I just have a high pass filter on them to keep some of the bass down so they don't sound horrible.
