My cat makes a terrible ratlling noise every time I start the truck and when I gas it sometimes. I called around a few places for a new one and the basic one was $125. I was thinking I could just take it out completely b/c we don't have any inspections here. Will this cause my SES light to stay on and can I do anything to fix it?

Yes, and Yes. You can take it out, and there is a way to turn off the SES light. But of course I don't remember where I saw how to turn off the SES light. I've also heard mixed reviews on whether it's benificial to take it off. Technically your engine won't run as efficiently and you'll loose more power than is gained by ditching the cat. Check for catco cats at summitracing.com. You can also check ebay, I hear they are on there from time to time. Personally I don't think you can beat a good high flow cat.

Thanks. Do you know what size cat I would need on a 4.3 Vortec? Should I get a universal or direct fot one?

That's one heck of a deal. I do believe all fullsize chevys run a 3" cat. I'd shoot that seller an email...he should know.
