Well, finally put straight pipes on my truck...kinda. I took the dynomax setup off my truck and put the stock back on. Then, while it was off, me and a friend made up a y-pipe to replace the dynomax muffler. So the other day, I put the dynomax system back on with the y-pipe instead of the muffler.....it sounds good! It does need a little tuning, though. Less resonance in the cab than with the muffler on. Although it is loud, my buddy took the stock exhaust off his '97 silverado from behind the cats, and it is at least twice as loud as mine! Man, does my '99 ever have a wimpy cam!

Yeah I did the same thing with my Gibson cat-back.
Is your motor the 5.3 or the 350 (I belive both were avialable in 99??). the 5.3 is a quieter motor to begin with, but if your buddy took the exhaust off after the cats and didnt put any pipes back on ("dumped" after the cats), then yeah it will be loud. I cant imagine that sounding good tho.

yah, i got the 5.3. i noticed it is a VERY quiet motor. What I meant about my buddy taking his exhaust of is......when i did the same thing, take the exhaust off behind the cats, his is at least twice as loud as mine. it doesnt sound that bad actually, i know with full pipes to the rear, the 350 sounds a lot better than the 5.3 imo.
