I have been wanting to put a catback system on my truck for quite some time now. The only thing that I worry about is the noise levels inside the cab. I have a standard cab with a short bed 99 Silverado. I was thinking about getting the 50 series Flowmaster but am not sure about the noise levels. It must sound pretty sweet outside but what about inside. I don't want anthing that will be annoying to listent to and cause me to hate it. Flowmaster says that the 70 series is almost as quiet as stock. To me this is the way to go if I dont want all the interior noise but will I be wasting my money on a muffler that dosent make any noise? Any input is appreciated.
I have the 40 on my ext cab Sierra. There is some in-cab resonation around 2K RPM, but not too bad IMO :D

I have the 70 series on mine and like it. It is almost like stock. Irecently had the chrome 3" tips removed and had the pipes dumped behind the axle. This little change made a huge difference in the sound...with the tips it had a little bit of a snarl, but with the dumped setup it is super queit, just like stock. I must say that w/ the 70 series, in cab resonance does not exist for me. That to me was one of the main concerns I had when I was buying and the muffler shop guys definately told me to stay away from the 50 series if in cab noise was a concern.

When you had the tips on there, was it at all louder than stock. What about while riding. Was it noticable that you had an exhaust? I want something that is not overly loud but still be able to hear it. Thanks for the help.

i think the 70 is goin to be TOO much like stock.
I have the FlowMaster 50 series in Stainless Steel. My engine is a 5.0 liter and I'm running 3.08 gears. The rear makes a big difference in sound also. I very rarely go above 2200 RPM unless I'm stepping on it. At cruising speed it's hardly noticeable. If I'm cruising at 72 MPH I can hear it, but it's not in the cab. When they replaced my stock muffler, I had them push the flowmaster back as far as they could by welding in a small piece of pipe, still using my stock tail pipe. The truck sounds sweet and I feel the 50 series is probably a good setup. Especially if you're 48 and married with children and tow from time to time with a camper.
I don't think I would want it any louder. However, I am considering on getting a tip w/ 4 inch diameter for a deeper sound. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I think I'm gonna get the 70 series. If it is to quiet then I can always swap it out for something different. I would rather have to quiet than to loud at first. Anyone know of any place to get them for cheap?? Also what size pipes do I need? 3" inlet and dual 2.5" exits??? Not to sure. Thanks again.

NOOOOOO 70! get the 50, you cant hear it w/ the windows up and the radio on at a norm. level.
but w/ windows down radio off it sounds nice.
i recently made a 2 way 6hour trip w/ a blown radio cruisin at 60-80. theres a nice growl to her but not annoying at all.

i would go with 3 IN 2 1/4 OUT. i have a 3 IN and 2 1/2 OUT and i lost some low end.
i have heard that u can only hear the 70 series if u floor it. no idle rumble

I had a 70 series on my Xcab and it sounded like stock so I put a 50 series on my Tahoe and I'm really happy with it. It's got a little rumble to it but it's not annoying. I also drive from TN to OH several times a year and the 50 series does not bother me at all. Get the 50 you'll be happier.:D

I had the 70 series dual in/dual out on my 97 ECSB w/3.5 in. tips and it sounded awesome. I drove it that way for about 2 years. After awhile, I wanted it a little deeper, so I gutted the stock cat's. This made a dramatic difference. It didn't even sound like the same truck. It got really really deep :head: :head:. Plus I picked up some mpg and hp.

If you are looking for just a bit of rumble, get the 70 with some 3"-4" tips. It is stock plus about 20% for lack of better way of putting it. If you want rumble that is gonna be obvious all the time, get the 50 with the same tips. Then you'll have stock plus 40%.I prefer the 70, maybe because I am getting old ;) , but then I do enjoy the stealth effect at the stoplight too...
I would suggest the 50 , as most people think mine is too quiet for an aftermarket system. Plus, the 50 is usually chepaer than the 70 (dunno why).
My 70 with the tips had a nice rumble at idle and a little snarl at WOT, but was totally placid at highway speeds.
