Since there's 6704 posts, this might be a repeat. I'll start by telling you what I have.....03' Silverado Regular Cab, Short Box, 2wd, Locking Rear Axle, 5.3L Vortec V8, Automatic.
I'm looking into getting dual exhuast of some sort with 2.5" chrome tips(no headers). I'm going for the performance street sound instead of the 4.5" or 5" tipped offroad-can't hear yourself think exhaust. I'm not even sure what style I want, because I'm sure it sounds different coming out the back or coming out the right side behind the tire, since the length of the tailpipe would be different.
Exhaust is expensive and I'd hate to regret a purchase for my new truck. I don't want to wake the whole state up in my truck I just want a nice clean sound when I put it down. The only thing I can decide on is 2.5" dual chrome tips and no headers.
Any help you guys can give me would be great, I didn't get any detailed responses on CarDomain.com
THANK YOU in advance. :head: :rocking: :smokin:

CK, what series spintech do you suggest for a vortec 5.3 liter?

I think it is the "Sportsman", but not 100% sure. Either way the smaller the size the louder it will be.

I would recommend you start off with just a muffler. It's cheap and it will give you an idea of what sound your after. I had a magna muff installed on my '03 'rado and I really like it. It's got a nice rumble at start up, nice deep tone at low rpms, and screams at WOT or during 1leggers:rocking:  I deffinitly gained some pick up too. But it did take the computer a day or so to adjust, because at first I felt no power increase.
I would also suggest you do things in increments:read: I know its exciting to mod like crazy when you get a new beast:D But its also costly and you sometimes end up buying things you regret later. Take it slow, do one step at a time, and you will have the perfect system your after:cool:

I had a magnaflow on my truck(sold it to 03redmonster) and got a flowmaster put on. I liked both of them, and i personally think that since the engines reach most of their power in the higher rpms, yet the trucks drive about 95% of the time or more in the lower rpms ranges (around 11500-2700 rpm) that it really doesn't make much of a difference on what exhaust you go with. the magnaflow did sound nice, but it just wasn't as loud as i had wanted, which is why i went with flowmaster. I really didn't see any difference in performance between the 2, but there was sure a big difference in the noise:devil:

I just finished welding on my new 5x8 magnaflow, 1 in 2 out 3" today......I'm so done with flowmaster and not looking back.
Sure, they sound great when you go and take off, but try being the guy with the flow's cruisin 65 on the highway, the resonance is nerve racking!
What i love most about the magnaflows is what i hated about the flowmaster.....at idle and while coasting the magna is quiet but screams when you get on it whereas the flowmaster always seemed damn near just as loud during idle as it did redlining.
That's just from my experience.....
I also agree with the other guys, go out and just have the muffler put in where your stock was, it will be cheaper and if you wanna change out, you won't feel like you're losing as much.
