Sooo... my towing cam now just isnt doing it for me. It just doesnt have enough power in the midrange and highend. I was thinking of sticking a Comp Cams Extreme Energy XE262H cam in my motor.

The lift on it is .462/.469
Im wondering if my springs and stock heads will really benefit from this big of a cam. I desktop dyno'd it and it will add a TON of horsepower and torque.

Can anyone give me some info on the 92/93 motors, especially the heads. I want more power, but I dont want to overcam the engine.

Tons more power and torque?
The question is "where" in the powerband do you want em?

here's some dyno sheets from comp

What casting #'s are your heads?

Most (if not all) of the flat tappet XE series will require new springs. I'm running an XE 256 in my 82 swb 355. It's a good street cam/easy to tune/ good economy/easy on parts and will pull well to 5500.

Well... That seems like plenty of lift for the stock heads. I was just playing with Desktop Dyno and some cam profiles for my motor and I wanted to find a hard pulling TQ/HP cam to about the engines redline wich is 5000RPM. The 256 might be my best bet.

The high energy line isnt a dual pattern cam and I dont think that the stock heads will like that.

Well there was quite a debate on thirdgen about single pattern vs. dual pattern for tbi swirlport heads. Many of the people feel that a single pattern is a wise choice because the exhaust port on the heads arent that bad and arent what limit power its the intake ports that do. The longer exhaust duration supposedly in there theory gave to high I/E ratio therefore over scavenging and pulling some of the intake mixture out of the cylinder. This was some of the peoples theories.

I could still go with the High Energy .440 lift cam from comp.

The dual pattern Xtreme energy cam wears out the heads and the cam wears really fast. Thats what everyone has told me. Its a really aggressive profile of a cam.

run away from those "everyone" thats told you that CRAP!...
geeeze...
if you have cam wear, you have a valvetrain issues or poor oiling system
if your heads wear out (more guide issues) they were redone
poorly, too stiff of a valve spring, or mis-alignment of the valvetrain.
ask a cam manufacturer for advise than those everyone peeps..
