Just switched to flowmaster yesterday. Header to true duals with X pipe going to 2 - 40 series. Wondering about the break in everyone talks about -- is it really a big diff? And how long does it take. I love the sound, the x pipe makes it sound exotic -- I just wish it had a little more volume when i put my foot on the floor -- right now, the cruising volume and the WOT volume almost sound the same. Think they'll get any louder?

Break-in? On flowmasters? I can understand fiberglass packed mufflers wearing out, but I'm not aware of anything similar on flowmasters. Mine sounded the same from day 1 til the new engine, now it's just a little bit louder:D.

I dont know about everyone else but both my flowmaster setups and my best friends truck definately changed with a little break in.
Mine has gotten quite a bit louder over the last 2 years. :D :read: :D

It's the x-pipe that's making your exhaust quiet... If you want louder, switch to an H section or an offroad pipe.... Oh and I've never heard of chambered mufflers "breaking in", but one never knows...

mine broke in quite nicely. and to be honest it seems like everytime i slam on the gas for an extended period, say WOT from 60 to 100, the exhaust note gets better.
hell the breakin in could be anything from the computers learning curve taking advantage of the new air flow to just exhaust build-up on the baffles themselves. and how do we know the baffles dont just move over time, they are subjected to a high heat and pressure enviroment, which overtime could be enough to conform the aluminum providing even better flow (atleast i think flows are aluminum)
not 100% sure, but i bet every skeptic you'll find hasnt ever run a flowmaster.
