I like the look of this site, and all the cool truck pictures. My Brother-In-Law is Greg ("Fast4.8") and he gave me the address here.

Right now, I'm looking into some LS1-based motor equipped Chevy/GMC trucks. Most likely a Tahoe/Yukon or an X-cab 5.3L truck.

What are the towing capacities on these trucks, I need to be able to haul my Formula and a trailer, totalling about 4500 lbs or so.

I'd most likely be buying a used vehicle, maybe a year old. What are used Tahoes/Yukons selling for ('00+)? Do they all have the 5.3L motor in them?

Not that the motor matters much anyways, I'd probably remove it and install a modified 6.0L or bigger motor anyways :D

Welcome, A few months ago, I think FOURWHEELER did an article called "should you tow with a Tahoe?" It was an '01 with the 5.3, they were convinced that while it could be done, a bigger vehicle is reccomended if you tow a lot. So, if you were looking for a vehicle that was primarily a Tow vehicle, I would reccomend a 3/4 truck or suburban. If you were going to drop a 6.0 in, why not save the money and by the heavier duty trcuk/burb and get the 6.0 or even the 8.1? Or, the duramax is always an option. but you hinted you wanted a gas engine.

Welcome Nine,

A Z71 4X4(Vortec 5300) will tow 9200lbs
A 2WD(Vortec 5300) will tow 8500lbs

A 1500HD 2WD(Vortec 6000) with tow 10300lbs
A 1500HD 4X4(Vortec 6000) will tow 10000lbs

Any 2500HD(Vortec 8100) will tow 12000lbs

Nice ride you've got there Nine Ball...I would say any of the HD's or Maybe a YukonXL/Suburban would work for you. I think with a regular 5.3L you may put to much stress on it over time. And after look at your webpage, it looks like you may be trailering it. No offense intended. Welcome aboard though, because this is definately the place to learn about what you need.
