I have some pre cut tint for my truck... What would be the best way to go about installing it? Is it hard to get the window out of the truck? If I leave the window in then how do I get the tint past the bottom felt/seal? Thanks

I did mine with the window in. You may have to cut down the tint a little more just so it fits good.

BTW i dont think this is a one person job.

I have 2003 Silverado.

I saw your post with the window tint. How did it come out? I see the precut kits all the time on Ebay. I am trying to decide on paying $80.00 or so dollars to have it done perfessional or do a kit.

Let me know.

Thanks

JOHN

I am waiting for my white door handles to come in from GMpartsdirect, When they come I have to take the door panel off, So I was going to see if it would be easy to get the window out.

It wouldn't be worth it to remove the entire window. It's not very hard at all to lay tint down, especially if it's already cut. Really all you'll need is some soap and water (in a bottle) a big box of straight razors, a small plastic squegee, and some paper towels. Just hose the windows down with the solution and scrape them just to make sure they are completely smooth. If anything gets under the tint it'll show up when it dries, so make sure they are perfectly clean. Then basically all I can say is make sure the tint stays really wet until you get it where you want it. Just lay it on down on the window and slide it into position, after that squegee out all the water mixture under there and any bubbles. You'll probably want to roll the windows down so you can align the top first, then slowly work your way down. Take your time! Then don't roll the windows down for 3-5 days.

It's real easy to slide the tint under the weatherstripping and the corners with a squegee. You can also remove the window, but think about this...you will have to leave it off for a few days or at the very minimum be extremely careful when putting it back on after you've installed the tint. I've ripped new tint off about 6-8 hours after it was put on and I could've easily re-applied it, it was still workable.

BTW, it's not hard to take the window off. Just two bolts holding it onto the window guides.

If you're taking the door panel off to do the handles, You wont have a weatherstripping problem. The inside weatherstripping is attached to the door panel. you will have full access to enough glass to lay the tint.

You sure it's the same on the NBS trucks? I thought the weatherstripping was actually seperate from the door panels. I could be wrong but anyway it's not hard at all to slide the tint down into it...

Thanks guys, I will have to see what my options are when I get the panel off the truck. How long should it take for my handles to come in? Its been almost 2 weeks.

I tried the ebay stuff and even though it fit great, it seemed to scratch very easily.

The weather strip is on the rubber that goes all around the window, not on the panel. It is easier to remove the panel anyway so you don't soak it with the solution. Tinting is pretty easy, just take your time. As said above make VERY sure that the window is spotless. Clean it 20 times, go over it lightly with a razer blade to remove any "bump" or anything like that. Take the time to prep and the windows will look much better. IMHO I would pay the $80 to have it done by the pros. If they screw up it is their butt. I have done probably 25 vehicles in my life and all turned out great, except for this truck. Not sure if it was just cheap tint or what.

A couple of years ago there was talk about a metal impregnated tint that reflected a bunch of the heat and kept it's color well. I think it was a 3M product.

Any idea of what the name of it or availability is? I'm in the market for tint for my truck.

All of the newer tints are metalized now. Llumnar and Solarguard to name a few.

:word: All quality tint shops use nothing but metallized films. They have been for the last 7 or 8 years now. All of my rides have Johnson tint and it's metallized.

That right there is the big reason that AutoZone tint sucks. It's just dyed plastic which will fade, turn purple, and not reflect as much heat.
