View Full Version : X-pipe , is it worth it? TheChevyLives 02-18-2002, 02:55 PM Sup fella's , are X-pipes really worth puttin on ??? if so , who manufactures them? speedracrrr 02-18-2002, 03:13 PM look at either this months or last months car craft magiazine. they did a comparison on "x" pipes, "h" pipes, and straight headers to see how HP differed. i dont rightly recall right now which was better but the did pick up some HP with the "x" and "h" pipe. let me know if you dont have access to a car craft i and i could propably email the results:smokin: astroracer 02-19-2002, 08:39 AM Car Craft Exhaust Comparison on a Mustang: Open headers vs. "H" Pipe vs. "X" Pipe. Open headers made 23 more horsepower then the poorly designed "H" Pipe system. The well designed "X" Pipe system made 2 or 3 MORE horsepower then open headers... This is on a track only car. The thing to realize here is that the system was NOT thrown on at a muffler shop. It was developed at a quality exhaust manufacturer. It's not likely you will see gains like this without spending the money for the trial and error aspect of this system. What you have to ask yourself is how much do you want to spend to see an extra 5 or 6 horsepower at 3700 RPM with your stock motor? How often do you spin her up that high? Is it really worth it? On a stock vehicle... In all of my research and personal experience all I can say is that it really isn't. The factory "Y" pipes actually flow very well for stock engines and actually do the same job as an "X" pipe. Without the added cost or wasted space. Open up the exhaust behind the factory "Y" with a good single in/dual out muffler and a set of pipes out the back and you will be happy with the sound and cost. vBulletin v3.5.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
