I been looking into exhaust options and was checking out the Magnas. I found they make a bunch of different versions of the same muffler. Like with the single in and dual out muffler, there are like 4 different lenghts to choose from. How does the lenght of the muffler change the sound? (long, more throaty??). Anybody that got Magnas' know what lenght you got???

I just put a Magnaflow on yesterday, so far, I like :D . It has a nice deep tone at idle and cruising, and has a little growl on the freeway to let you know it's there but not loud by my standards (I like things pretty quiet too!). The general rule with any muffler is, the bigger it is, the quieter it will be. More packing = more sound absorbtion! I used pn 12278, it has a 3" inlet and dual 2.25" outlets, you can see it on their websire www.magnaflow.co, it's an oval muffler. Hope this helps!

My single in / dual out is the 5x8x14 and it is not that loud unless you get in it. I can just imagine how quiet the 18" long ones are. With the Magnaflows the longer - the quieter it will be. I will be going to two single in/out 4x9x14 when the headers get here.

anyone know how magnaflows sound on the new 4.3 V6's?? I have a flowmaster 40 right now which sounds ok, but I'd think about changing it if I knew magnas had a deeper mellower tone.

Have always used flowmasters before on my previous trucks. Last Saturday I had true duals installed on my 02 with 2-14" magnaflows and the magnaflow X in the system. This has produced the sound I have always tried to obtain (mellow and deep). The best part is the absence on the in-cab resonance the flowmasters produce. My headers should be here next week and after the install I will be off to the dyno again to see if I made a gain or just have a good sounding truck.

You got any pics of the install? That is exactly how I am going to do mine as soon as my headers arive. All my parts are at the shop waiting on me. Did you go with the 5x8 or 4x9 bodys? Did you dump or side/rear exit? How about performance, notice any difference on your low end, good or bad? Sorry for all the ? but I am really wondering if I am going to regret ditching my current system.

That is what I am modeling my new setup after. I am going to add cutouts and Magnaflows though.

Yea, that is where I got my idea from. John is a friend of mine and only lives about 30 min. away and he does have a sweet truck! (but still not faster than me! :D Sorry John I had to) I was just wondering about PQ's since he used magnaflow mufflers instead of flowmasters.

Big KID, My install is almost a duplicate of John Cannon's. I printed a lot of his jpegs to take with me. I did, excuse me, my installer, put my X as close as possible to the cats claiming it would be more effective there, it is now approximately where the flange was. He removed all the square pipe from the drivers side where it crosses over below the tranny. My installer also made all slip joints (the expanded setion where one pipe fits over the other) face up stream so the are no steps in the system to cause turberlance. All my piping was also done on a mandrel bending machine. FORGOT MY DIGITAL CAMERA, damn it. I can take some pics if you want. Know you are anxious. Man those magnaflows are great, I used 4x9-14". If you are moving about 20mph and nail it the truck now squalls the tires when it grabs 1st gear again, never did that before. It seems to rev quicker from 2,000 up. From a dead stop I feel I have lost nothing and may have gained (sorry my seat-o-meter not that accurate). I have dumps just before the axle and John has emailed and said not to get tail pipes as his is faster with turndowns. Hope to dyno again after I install headers and will have some empherical facts then. If you like what you have now you will love what you are about to get.

Thans for the info. That is what I was wanting to hear.
Yea, I already know about John's tailpipe adventure. We were at the track together when he was testing it out. I think he was a little dissapointed about the whole evening.

I have the 18" Magna. I wanted almost a stock sound at highway speeds (I travel about 80 miles a day) but a nice rumble when i step on it. Thats what i have. Low/mid rpm= deep rumble, and at high rpm it almost sounds like a sports car. The 14" sound really good, a lot deeper than mine. I wasnt looking for that though just because i travel a lot each day. the smaller muffler you go with, the louder/deeper it will get. I give magna's 2
