Re: NBS Big 3 upgrade
Because the alternator is connected to the block, and you want to make sure it has the best ground possible.

Re: NBS Big 3 upgrade
I am a little lost. The power wire on my 92 RCSB goes from the battery to the starter, not the alternator. What is the proceedure for this? Do I just upgrade that wire instead?

Follow the wire from the ALT and see where it goes.

From my alt it goes to a wiring harness, thru a fusable link (I believe that's what it is), and over to the junction box on the firewall. From there it goes out to the battery.
Good deal. I have enough 4 gage to make both runs along with the ground side. I also have several set screw terminals as well and an inline fuse block. I should be good.
Thanks for the info.

Just add a piece of 4 GA from the battery to the alternator, and leave the stock wiring alone.

Due to the fact that the truck has almost burnt to the ground before, I am going to at least run a inline fuse for it. Thats if I don't go thru the junction box.

Re: NBS Big 3 upgrade
Why do you go from the block to the chassis? Can't you go from the block strait to the neg term on the battery? So the big 3 would be like this:
Positive to Alternator
Block to Negative
Negative to Body

You could do it that way I guess, but the purpose of the Big 3 is to upgrade the OEM wires that go from:
alt to pos,
block to chassis/body,
neg to chassis/body

Re: NBS Big 3 upgrade
Ok, I went under the hood and took some pictures. I could not find the engine to chasis. These are the three that I found:

Do you think I should make a ground leading from the Engine to the chasis??? If you say yes do you think it would be proper to use the ground on the engine that leads from the negative on the battery, use that ground on the engine to hook to the chasis (or if you think it would be better to hook to the frame please tell me )????? Thanks for the help.
Haha, this is hard enough, in one of my friends 3000gt I cant even fit my hand down and touch the alt. Hahaha, thank god for big vehicles.

Re: NBS Big 3 upgrade
I got 2ga wire from advanceautopart today so I'm gonna do this tomorrow as well. I alreayd has ground wire going to engine and body so just adding one from alt to batt. I got the HO alt and red top so this will help putting that ampage going through.

Re: NBS Big 3 upgrade
I added the 2 gauge from alt to redtop positive, and I had extra wire so replaced one of the wire was going from batt to engine.
and I had prob with HO alt which shuts off when I'm at stop sign.... so I put back OEM 100amp. but man I do see the difference.
this is good ting I did.

Re: NBS Big 3 upgrade
I did my big 3 a little different. but not much, I went from Alt-Bat, Bat-frame, Bat to firewall and used the factory braided ground to the block.
the black cable is going to the frame, the silver to the firewall, the blue to alt... the smaller guage wireing is for the MSD 6a. Soon the LS1 fans will also be hook up to that jungle of wires.

used a factory stud on the firewall that had a braided ground to the back of the engine block
since hooking the ground to frame it sounds as though the fuel pump pre-start purge has picked up in speed... always a good thing when the fuel pump can recieve more voltage.
