Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!
bad ass and you just gave me an idea...if i end up getting the 8" midbass from DLS someday, I could put the 8,6.5,3, and tweeter on each side and just make my own crossovers...hmmmm...

Thats the main purpose why i posted my build pics so that others can fall in my footsteps...hmm maybe Tribal can make this a sticky for everyone to see. However, I am off to Hawaii (Maui) for 2 weeks vacation so I will not get much work done on these babies until I return on the 26th.

The pods are held (or will be held on) via some "nutserts". They are primarily used for attaching pictures and things on drywall. You can see them in the first set of picks I posted. The nutserts go into the wood baffle, then are attached via screws through the door panel in a few places. You can PM me if you want about getting a set made up, BUT at the moment I am in Maui until Sunday, in which I will need to first finish my set up before I start making any for sale, but again, PM me on this.

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!
Did some more work on these baffles over the weekend (mainly on Sunday). Got the threaded inserts in on Saturday from McMaster-Carr. They are E-Z Lok brand threaded inserts and are specifically made for composite-type woods (mdf, particle, pressed hardboards, etc). I also mounted the midbass driver to the pod, and the mounted the pod to the door panel. More pics on my SD site.
Here is the basic rundown of what I did on Sunday. Installed the threaded inserts: ![]() ![]() Mounted the driver to the baffle/pod: ![]() ![]() Mounted the baffle/pod to the door panel: ![]()

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!
I'm also interested in a set when you are ready. Are you concerned about excessive vibration since the speaker is now mounted to the door panel instead of the door?

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!
huh, dont know how I missed this thread.
Looks like you've come across a real nice way to mount components in the NBS doors. Inexpensive and not very time consuming. Cant tell you how many hours I invested in my 'glass door pods. Thats why the price a shop would charge is high - takes time mocking up the framework and smoothing out the final product. |

Well I was actually shocked at how strong that area is once the panel is mounted back on the door. Must be due to all the curves and ridges which would give it strength. As long as your door panels are deadened, you wont see much vibration, and the mdf actually stiffens the panel as well. I am almost done with them, so I will post a pic of the final product (or at least just before covering, havent decided yet to paint or cover in vinyl)

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!
More progress:
I rounded over the edges of the speaker holes and mounted the driver and tweeter to the baffle. Next step will be to complete the other side baffle and cover them in vinyl. I will continue to post pics. If you want to see the complete build, check out my SD website page 5. LINK HERE! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!
got more work done, now just waiting on the vinyl to get here for covering them. Check out the link to the build page. I SHOULD get these complete before the end of next week, depending on when the vinyl comes in.

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!
Got mine today, look great.
What kind/color vinyl are you using Damian, ordering online? I'll probably just get the same stuff you use if it's easy to locate. :)
