Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Did some more work on my door pods. Covered them in the only color vinyl I could find locally...egg shell white. But the local NAPA store carries SEM products and I ordered some SEM Color Coat paint in graphite color along with some Vinyl Prep to get it cleaned and prepped for paint. This is where I am so far, hopefully bu tonight I am done with shooting these with the paint. Lemme know what youz think mane...

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Think you could get some pics of the back with the vinyl on? I need to do them soon and am debating whether I should attempt to wrap them myself or have someone do it, I've never done it before and those curves look somewhat difficult. Your vinyl job came out excellent. :)

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Okay, got the SEM graphite paint in last weekend, got the door baffle painted. The color match came out pretty damn close. The first pic is of the rear of the baffle, with the vinyl stretched over it and stapled it (I removed the staples after the contact cement fully cured...72hrs later). The next 2 pics are what the baffles look like after the paint and installed in the stock location. YOu can see a slight wrinkle in the mounted baffle, but it came out once the cement cured and with some heat. All in all, these were not that hard to finish. It was just getting all the necessary tools and supplies, which was time consuming because I basically figured out what I needed and ordered as I went along. Now that I have it all, shouldnt be much time to make more. Enjoy.

Very cool Damian!

I've never used vinyl, thought it would be a PITA to get it laid down right. this stuff that you used, did it have any backing to it?

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Very nice, great job.. I have been thinking of how I was going to get my JL-Audio XR-653's in my doors. Looks like a great way, if you could pm me with a price for the pods for the 3-way's mentioned above that would be great..

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Nice work man. I think putting a coat of body filler on and sanding/painting would also look killer on those. Again great clean work. Threads like this help encourage others who think they cant do something but in reality most people can just dont wanna!!

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

I just got a pair of these from Damian and they are wicked. Very nice workmanship, nothing is half-assed.
Included in the box was even a cardboard template for drilling the door panels in the correct locations. They are nicer than you'd believe for a "raw" uncovered set.

Thanks again bud!

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Thanks for the lesson! I've found Jo-Anne Frabric's to have a wide assortment of vinyl colors as well as some marine grade vinyl too! Every week they have a 40% off coupon in the paper or sign up on their web site for web coupons. Every little bit helps!

PS They also have great headliner material that looks OEM!!!
