Hmm not really. Those stick out way too far mane. How did you make those? A bunch of spacers over the OG grill, then some fiberglass and body filler? I would have at least cut out the grill, and allowed the speaker to fit into it. giving it a much smaller profile. They kinda stick out like a sore thumb, especially with those grilles on them...not trying to be a dick, but those dont look good IMO...sorry...

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

They are complete enclosures....the grills and all are removed....that was the airspace needed for the kicker ss components....they mount inside the doorpanels then the panels go over them....keeps the mids tight and no resosance inside the doors.....

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Thats what I thought was the reason, however most midbass drivers work well in an IB (infinate baffle) enclosure. That can be achieved by sealing the inside of the door with sound deadening matte. It essentially uses your entire door as the enclosure. Or another approach would be whats called "The Tupperware Method" which is basically you get a tupperware bowl that fits your airspace requirements, make a fiberglass mold of it, then use that to mount INSIDE the door panel as your enclosure, then your speaker could sit flush to the door panel.

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

The problem comes in im clearing the large magnets on the ss's when installing 2 in each door...Felt it was best to make them even and completely sealed from the elements....The doors are completely dynamatted and sealed also....

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

Hello...just a note that I will be posting some new pics cause I am building some new pods to house some Dayton RS180 (7") mids and some Dayton RS28 (1" tweeter). I will most likely not show the beginning stages since its basically the same as the rest of the build pics, I will show however the pre-vinyl test fitment and the finished product shots after I install them in my truck.

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

I just installed a set of the Kicker SS series mids and tweets into my 94. Should I seal the whole door off?? I have deading material on the door and behind the speaker. I still am not getting the mid bass I want though. Anyone have a good idea here? 6.5" mids and 1 " tweet

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

make small sealed boxes for the mids using tupperware as a mold for the fiberglass.....I dunno though, Im bout to do this with mine just to see. Its confusing though because most of the time I hear IB is the way to go....I need to deaden first though...

Re: New Door Pods (Work Log)!

infinite baffle is just created in the door when you have a speaker playing in a not so perfectly sealed box....we all have it if we deaden everything as far as I know, unles Im screwing things up....

Infinite baffle is made by running a driver in an enclosure thats just way too big for it, and its created when you deaden your door and seal it off, baically creating a box thats too large.

For example, you can run a 10" woofer on the rear shelf of a car, using the trunk (properly sealed of course) as the IB enclosure. although not all subs or drivers are suited for this type of enclosure, so make sure yours will be. Most midrange drivers are fine though, its the subs you need to be more picky about.

So would it be good to seal off everything on the door with Dynamat? Vents and all? I really am not getting no where near the midbass these speakers can put out. Thx

Yes, although use a better priced alternative to Dynamat...called RaamMat BXT (www.raamaudio.com)
Just dont cover the speaker hole, but do everything else. I did a layer on the insides of the metal door panel, then did 2 layers over it to seal it off. Here is a pic of my door panel once I started and after I was finished:

Doing the inside of the panels -

And all done -
