Window Motor Failure! :(
I've covered the voids in the inner door panels for acoustic separation on two previous vehicles, and I've always worried in the back of my mind about access to the window mechanism should it ever go out.
Well, the odds finally caught up to me. I covered the doors on my 2001 Sierra earlier this year, and one fine day this summer the passenger side window went down partway, then made a strange sound. Getting it back up required much manual tugging on the glass while working the controls back and forth repeatedly. Preliminary excavations through my door panel covers reveal that the motor drives the window up on a series of cables and pullies. A snapped cable is the problem. It looks like it weakened from rust. That's a bummer. The new motor assembly from LMC Truck is in a box in my kitchen as we speak. Has anyone gone through twith this repair? I should rephrase: Has anyone who's covered the inner door panel voids gone through with this repair? What's the minimum I need to remove?
Just because a manufacturer says you can doesn't mean you should!

Re: Window Motor Failure! :(
I would think you would just need to remove the big piece at the bottom.
This is the one im talking about: ![]() I really hope my window motor never goes out...but just in case, I used phillips head screws and didnt go too thick with the liquid deadener over them and absolutely no mat deadener over it. I also didnt but any mat deadener over any of the window track bolts...again...just in case. -Cody

Re: Window Motor Failure! :(
I hate the cable operated window regulators , but they do seem to make me Xtra $$$ when they break !.
I'm guessing it'll be $100+ to replace the assembly .
