Re: Radio Locked
Yes you will have to take it to your dealer to be reprogrammed. The theftlock system makes the radio require reprogramming to match your VIN. It is that way on all GM radios that have the RDS system. I just recently had the same situation and my dealer charged me for 1 hour shop time($42.00) even though it took the dude less than 5 minutes to do it. Good Luck, JT

Re: Radio Locked
I have an 03 silvy with a 5.3. Went to a junkyard and got another stock radio out of another 03 silvy. Took it to the stealership and they couldn't unlock it because the truck it came out of had a 6.0.

The motor in the donor truck has nothing to do with the radio. The only thing they had to do was change the VIN in the unit. |

I would also like to know this. I have a laptop based scan tool, is there any form of software I can get that will allow me to reprogram the VIN in the radio [the software that comes with the tool does not]? Chris |

I have replaced my battery and alternator in my 2003 Silverado and now my anti theft radio will not even display "LOC".
What can I do? It seems dead. Fuse is OK. |

Re: Radio Locked
From what I was told is that you have a 2002 or newer, you HAVE to go to the dealer.
I picked up a MP3 HU from DirkDiggler on here, and of course when I installed it, it immeadatley came up "LOCKED". Took the truck to a dealer today (Bill Schultz Chevy in Ft. Pierce... I'm working down here), and asked how much to reprogram the radio. I was told that you have to A> Reprogram the VIN into the radio, and B> Reset the Theftlock system. Was quoted $40 to do the job. Well, I swapped radios really quick (do you think I am going to drive from Daytona Beach to Ft. Pierce w/ no tunes?), and then I uninstalled my Diablosport Predator program (just in case). Well, when the guy brought the truck in, the radio was playing w/o the LOCKED. I thought that was weird.... Anyway, the dealer reprogrammed the VIN into the radio for me, and only charged me $20 to do it.

Re: Radio Locked
Just out of curiosity...
My wife had a passenger "spill" a drink on the radio in the 06 Malibu...after days of it not working right it finally just came on the other night. It worked great for a day or two. Lastnight we went into Wal-mart came out the battery was dead...no biggy must have left dome light on something get jumped go home this morning battery dead again. Got jumped no biggy. Now radio nolonger functions normally. It shows all the computer stuff trip oil life etc and the time but says "LOCKED" in the left corner of the display. WIll the above sticky work for it too? -~<>EricK<>~-

You have to go to the dealer. Most likely, your radio is fried, or close to being fried. If your still under warranty, get it replaced. If not, you might be able to salvage it by hosing it out with tuner wash. Tear it apart, and clean it really well with tuner wash and let dry completely, then reassemble and pray it works. If the battery stays disconnected for too long, the radio loses its memory and you have to get it reprogrammed. A dealer should charge NO MORE than $50 to do so. If they want to charge more, go to a different dealer.
