Sound deadening has started
Step 1 of the massive sound deadening project on my truck has began. The hood is the first of much deadening to come. Ive got about a grand worth of second skin deadening thats going in the truck. Hopefully I'll finish with the hood early enough to do one of the rear doors. The hood is going to be the biggest pain because i have to fill each little spot between the crossmembers. The rest should be easy, just extremely time consuming. Pictures coming...someday

Re: Sound deadening has started
yea, i have about a grand worth of sound deadening here at the house. I didnt get much done today because I got sidetracked with some stuff. Kind of disappointed but oo-well, this is project that will be going on for a long, long time. Especially since its just now starting to get cold here, I'm not sure I want to be putting this stuff on when its cold. Everyon says its ok to do it, but I'm still iffy

Re: Sound deadening has started
Ive started the sound deadening up again. I'll have some pics up by next monday at the latest. I put a layer of mat down where the drivers seat is and a layer on the entire roof. I have second skin's sludge which is whats going on next. I have it down on the mat where the seat would be and have about a quarter of the roof done. Taking a small break. Im quitting at 10 tonite and i started at 10 this morning. With about 2 hours wasted on getting some stuff I needed and breaks. So a solid 10 hours. The whole truck is ripped apart aside from the dash and the doors.
My goal is to have the roof done by tomorrow and hopefully lay mat across where the front seats bolt in. But I'll be doing it at night because i work from 9-6:30 so I'm not sure if ill have time/light to do it. Good thing its hot here though, it was 85 when I was laying mat
Well, back to work for another hour then sleepy time.

Re: Sound deadening has started
sound mat takes a long time because u have to take the truck apart be4 u can do anything
clean the metal be4 u start to put it down,
i did my back wall, and roof all in 5 hours by myself
it was 115deg at the time outside and the metal was hot as ***!!
i did 3 layers on the roof and 4 layers on the back wall and the sides of the window
i just made sure i had all the tools ready at lunch time and got off of work at 1pm and hit it hard after that
later on i did all 4 of my doors in 3 layers and 1 layer on the floor
im gonna do somemore layers around my back window area here soon but im lazy so i say a week but its more like 3-4 weeks because it takes time to get around to getting the sound mat
next summer im gonna rip out everything and add 2-3 layers to the floor, thats gonna be fun and cost me alot of $$
i need to start to save $$ for the floor
keep on working on it and the system will sound better after ur done and u won't have as much road noise

Re: Sound deadening has started
what did you use on it?
i put 1 layer of damplifier pro on the roof and it was dead as ****. I put on the slude about 3-4mm thick and its supposed to be better than mat when applied in the same thickness. Im going to go check it out this morning before i go to work and see if its dry yet

Re: Sound deadening has started
the roof on the x-cab trucks is like paper, i put so many layers on the roof because i didn't want it to flex at all, i remember before putting the mat down i was washing my truck and it felt like the roof was gonna give in behind the brace, over the driver and passager seats the roof had some metal that went across the truck and it wasn't as bad
wut type of system do u have in ur truck has alot to do with the amount of layers u need to stop the metal from flexing
when i had my single 12 it was fine, no noise flexing walls, with the pair of pro audio 15's i got alittle bit but not enuff to hear over the music
with the 18 i can hear it over some bass notes but not all
i went from 800wrms on the 12 to
1200wrms on the pair of 15's to
2000wrms on the single 18
laters

Re: Sound deadening has started
what brand did you use? here are my pictures. It finally dried tonite. The roof where I'm done is absolutely dead. I'll have 3kw going through this truck and I dont think ill have any flexing out of the roof.
before:

after, this is all i have done right now but i did put some foam in the crossmembers

why you want to spend money on a razor knife

the truck tore apart

picture of the mat under the drivers seat

picture of the mat on the roof

picture of the sludge under the drivers seat

picture of the sludge on the almost finished head liner
thats all i have right now, i was going to work on it tonite but i forgot my light at work so itll have be tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow ill be able to lay mat across where the seats should be and sludge that, followed by the paint on stuff.
so much to do, so little time...

Re: Sound deadening has started
the sound mat i used was some off of ebay and then after that i used peel n stick for the rest of the cab
i think the stuff off of ebay was deadmat or something like that, i can't remember the brand because i got it almost 2 years ago
the peel n stick is working fine for me, the areas where i used that stuff hasn't gave me any problems of flexing and making noise
the other areas where i have used the ebay sound mat i need to do something else to it
where did u pick up the sludge stuff? it looks like it would make it thick as ***!
how much does it run?
im gonna have to try out that stuff
laters
ps looks good from the pictures, have to let us know how it does when u get the system installed

Re: Sound deadening has started
everything i have is from second skin audio. I picked the sludge up on preorder probably almost a year ago now, just got around to installing it. It was 280 then, im sure its more now. But i have a 5 gallon bucket full of this ****. its awesome. itd probably take a gallon to do the head liner and 2 to do the floor. I got 5 to do the head liner, doors, floor, and back wall.

Re: Sound deadening has started
i was able to do my truck with about 24 hours of work and not much sleep over a weekend. I did not do the roof. I had 2 layers on firewall, floor, backwall, inside doors and 1 layer on the outside the doors. I used Raamat. 152 sq feet. It was very very time consuming and boring..but well worth it.

Re: Sound deadening has started
i got mat layed across all where the front seats would be and got it all sludged. The head liner is done as well. Im going to put a couple layers of the spectrum spray and then put the seats back in. Hopefully get the layers done tomorrow and have the seats bolted in the day after.
