best place to wire in an on/off switch.
I'd like to add an on/off switch for my amplifier (just powers a sub not the speakers). Just wondering where the best place in the circuit to wire it in is. I know if i run certain wires too close to each other i start getting electronic interference. anyone done this? i hate having to do it but i don't always want a lot of bass... doesn't go well with country music (i listen to almost anything). Its too much of a pain to adjust it on the amp itself its mounted upside down under my seat on some custom welded brackets. Hopefully it'll help me save my battery a little bit too on short trips. Any pictures/diagrams are appreciated.

wire the switch inline with your remote power wire coming from your headunit to the amp and you want the power cables on one side of the car and the rca's on the other so it doesnt create any interference in the rca's so u dont hear like a whining or a bussing.

Ok, i'm sort of getting this. Only concern is that wire is 4 guage. Is there a switch that can use this existing wire? and do i just need to put it on the positive wire from the battery or do i need to run any of the wires from the head unit to it as well? I hate wiring, can you tell?

most stereos have different settings for certain types of music, have you tried that yet ? I know on mine if I set it to Vocal theres pretty much no bass. Even most stock radios have a control to adjust bass that usually dont take more then 10 seconds

Mine has that yes. However i would like to just turn off power to the amplifier completely, in the winter the short trips to work are hell on my battery.

it is usually a blue wire, like everyone said install a simple switch inline of that wire and it will cut power to your amp, I had that installed in my old car for when I brought the neice and nephew out

yea i said the remote power wire and yes it is usally blue that goes from the headunit out to the remote terminal on the amp and the switch can go anywhere in that wire.

Re: best place to wire in an on/off switch.
You might also check (if you're running an aftermarket HU) to see if there is a subwoofer setting on your HU. On mine, and quite a few others that I've seen, there is an option to turn the sub off, which actually does the same thing as putting an inline switch on your remote wire. It should stay set, even after turning the vehicle on/off, so your amp would never actually have to turn on ever.

Re: best place to wire in an on/off switch.
you can purchase a remote bass knob...so you can just adjust the bass accordingly for the subs.
