Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

So long as you are adding mass to the panel, I can't see why it wouldn't work. Infact, other than being very messy and hard to clean up, I think it is a good idea. You can buy HippoLiner pretty cheap.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

I thought about the bedliner Idea long time ago but someone said it would smell too bad. I think that was just BS and I may just try it anyway.

Once it dries, it doesn't smell AT ALL.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

damn and i just went down to home depot payed $30 for 2 rolls (30 sq.ft) of "frost king" 1/8" thick aluminum backed self adhesive foam duct insulation to do my doors+backwall/back pillars....

worked great, no outside noise anymore besides a very low wind noise, which seems to be coming from around the mirror/or door weatherstripping). ill have my stereo at 23 (out of 31) volume setting, will be loud enough so you can barely yell to the person on the pass seat and as soon as i get out and shut the door, the music sounds like its barely on..

although i have to shut my door a with a little more force now or it dont latch completly.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

Installed my Crystals the other day and had this horrible distortion sound. I took the door panels off and what was causing it was that stupid sticking plastic wrap GM puts on their doors to stop Noise. The speakers were causing the whole plastic to vibrate like a mofo. I'm taking it all off this weekend and doing it right with some sound deadening stuff.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

I found out the spray in bed liner stuff would work great but it would be a pain to do. For the front seats back not counting the doors it woould be like $400 so I dont think its worth it

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

How well does Great Stuff work if I used it under the bed rails, cross member, frame rails etc. Does it actually help much? Noticeable?

I'm not doing it for the stereo gain, I just like having a quiet vibration free ride.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

You can use wire mesh and concrete. That's for like a dbl competion truck/van. I did a poor man's thing one time. I used tar! Then covered it with newspaper. Put the carpet over it. The smell will go away after a few days.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

I have been reading about sound deadening for about 2 years and finally deceided to tackle my whole interior this week.

And I don't think most people install the asphalt based mat correctly, you have to heat it up to where it becomes very shiny you can see it just barely starting to become liquid then I use a roller to apply it.

There were one or two pieces that I placed crooked on the roof and I could not pull it back off (I weigh about 300 pounds)

I used peel and seal and after I got half the roof done I could tap the done part of the roof then the part not done and could tell a huge difference. I didn't notice any smell.

But the key is heat, buy a good heat gun.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

I just started on my floor today. Used Peel and Seal because I'm a poor college kid. I haven't used any heat and this stuff sticks like crazy. I'm sure it sticks better because its on the floor though. I don't see the smell being a problem at all.

I also wanted to share that I have used 25 sq.Ft of this on my extended cab floor and I still have some room to go. I only overlapped on certain places but not that much.

Thanks for the guide I can't wait to hear the difference with this and my carpet whoooo. =)

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

We do the Vortex bed liners at work so I been thinking of using that as sound deadener inside the cab and the doors. I'm already planning on stripping out the interior for the interior conversion from the 89 to the 98 style dash.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

I'm not really a fan, but I guess anything is better than nothing. Hit the bed of a bedlined truck and the bed of one that isnt, theres not much difference.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

For what it's worth, I bought 80 sq ft of Damplifier pro, and it wasnt enough to do my 96 extended cab. I was able to do the exteded cab part and floor, but still need to do the roof over the driver/passenger and the doors. Back to the second skin website..

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening

I deadened everything sheet metal in the actual extended cab part of the truck in one layer and the floor in one layer. Nothing out of the ordinary I dont think, especially after seeing pics of your GMC
