Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
Did you do the inner and outer skin of the rear 'doors'? 80ft shouldve been more than enough to do that, back wall, and floor in one layer.

Other than the smell, and chemicals used in some bedliners, some would work. Others, on the other hand, would not work as well. The ones that dry hard do not work well at all. They tend to be about the same as the stock panel, as it's still producing resonance from panel on panel vibration. The ones that are more rubberized will work. Personally, if I were doing something of that magnitude, I'd use rubberized undercoating spray. You can get it at an auto body store in quantities to spray with a pneumatic sprayer, or you can go for the rattle can variety and buy several cans from Bondo-Marhyde. I have used it in several installs as a top layer over mat dampener, or in hard to reach places.

Exalted512, what's your opinion on Hushmat? I didn't see it mentioned. I have some in my truck but not enough to make a difference, just around the speakers.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
I put Herculiner in the bed of my truck and it made a huge difference. My mufflers are right under the bed and was so loud in the cab. I did the herculiner not expecting it to be a sound deadener, just to protect the bed. I was so surprised how quiet it was i went and got more to do the floor and back wall. It helped so much. I used a roller and made it as smooth as possible. Which i would suggest thinning it with acetone i think is what they suggested. Now i have a layer of Fatmat Rattle Trap and then foam on top of the herculiner. My 350 TBI with no cats and flowmaster 40's sounded like it was in the cab with me before now it sounds like a four banger when i sit in it.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
i have about a total of 160Sqft of deadener in my truck, between the floor the roof the inside of the doors and the outside i used ROCKFORD FOSGATE DEADSKIN it has gave me no trouble. it is easy to work as well. SOUND DEADENER is deffinately worth the money no matter what kind you get. i have absolutely no rattles in my truck.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
I can buy RF deadskin at cost, I would never put that crap in my truck. Go butyl, or dont use it.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
Noob Question..
Very interested in doing this to my 04 silverado, cause in recent years it has gotten alittle noisier on the highway
For the roof, you simply remove your head liner and stick directly to the sheet metal on the roof
And for the door, what do you do for the "holes" in the panel... do you go right over them, or just jsut them out and wrap the deadening stuff aorund the edge?

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
You use roof flashing and screw or rivet it in. then put the deadener over it

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
Yes, deaden the door first, not using the flashing, then deaden the side of flashing thats going on the inside of the door and screw it to the door, then go over the flashing again with another layer of deadener.

Re: The Definitive Guide to Sound Deadening
there is a pretty good weight addition. but nothing that is going to be noticable unless you put in like 200 sq ft.
the whole point of deadening is adding mass so that your body panels dont resonate and distort the sound waves trvaeling in your truck. so there will definitly be a weight gain but it is worth it when you close the door for the first time and just get a dull thud.
