Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
The actual panel itself measures 8-7/8" X 7" X 1/2". The bezel's viewing area measures 8-5/16" X 6-1/4".
Hope this helps!

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
more done, but not much in the way of pictures.
Got the dvd finally working - that was a bit tricky. I had to install it on the second IDE port as a slave for it to be recogonized correctly.
Followed this link and got the boot time down to about 20 seconds - http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1785996,00.asp
Got centrafuse downloaded and installed. Still trying to get dvd play back to work correctly.
got the gps receiver installed and working (I think). Since I'm doing this from the house, it's not receiving a signal - won't know till I get the cpu back in the truck.
New monitor ordered and shipped - hopefully it will be here this week.
So the plan for the rest of this week:
get some painting done and commit to the closest matching color
get the dvd drive to work correctly
final install

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
realized I haven't shown you guys the finished DVD drive - sorry about that:
ended up re-painting the bezel after comparing the 2 colors to the rest of the interior:
a mess of wires that needs to be cleaned up:
front end working on my test monitor:
and got the GPS working:
new ts monitor and aux in module should be here tomorrow. With any luck by tomorrow evening it will all be installed and buttoned up.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
I can't believe I'm this close to having it finished! I do have to say I'm about nervous about an electrical fire. I keep running to the window and checking to make sure I don't see any smoke.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
ok so this blows! I just got the screen, pulled it out of the box - the damn thing won't power up. The power cable that plugs into the screen isn't snug enough - I have to push/wiggle the cable for it make a good connection.
Wondering now if I should return and get a new one or take this one apart and see if I can make it work.

What screen? The one you were having issues with, or did you get a Shark?

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
Two things...
If it's getting torn apart and mounted, why not desolder/solder your connections?
Make sure you have an active input. If you have VGA (for example) plugged in, but the PC off, it's gonna kill the power to the monitor. If the button is left on, it should bump power back on the monitor when the signal is detected.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
yeah if pulling it a part, why not just solder it and be done? Did you solder yours or did you use the plug?
I was reading that thread over on mp3car and saw that it needed a signal - hooked it up to my laptop, no good.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
well everything is packed up and I'm heading to dads. Gonna pull the screen apart, break out the soldering iron and get this thing installed and working. Hopefully in a few hours, I'll have some good news, a working car pc and some pics for all the junkies out there.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
Right now, mine is simply plugged in, because I'm testing in the house still.
Also, do you get any power? Like for just a second or two, or simply no power whatsoever?

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
alright still haven't gotten this damn thing to work. It's apart, I'm 99% certain I have all the pieces hooked back up correctly, but if I get it to display anything it's 'No Signal' and then it shuts down. From what I can tell, I get power for a second or two and then it turns off. I'm using my other monitor so I know there is a signal, I hooked up a volt meter to the board and I'm getting 11.XX reading. I am seriously at a loss and starting to get really pissed at the thought that this screen is DOA and I pulled it apart and therefore can't return it.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer
alright... it got worse - I was no longer even getting the 'No Signal' on the screen - nothing was happening. Turns out, wires to each of the bulb had broken off. After carefully removing the bulbs and soldering the wires back in, I'm back in the game. The other problem I'm noticing is that the VGA cable sucks. I have to wiggle it and find the right spot for it to work. Tomorrow the plan is to get the screen mounted in the bezel and back buttoned up and then test the VGA cable again.
