there were 4 buttons that adjusted the horizontal and vertical display - I moved those behind the screen, inside the case. Then on the back of the actual screen there are 3 knobs - to adjust contrast, brightness and I forget, but they all fit inside the case too.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

first a little texture:

maybe some more...

that's looking pretty good, now for color!

I'm still not 100% positive yet. I am going to wait a couple of days and go look again. Just not sure the color I used will match close enough. That and it turns out the paint I used is SEM vinyl and leather paint - not sure how well that's gonna set up.

Also got the case iced, smoothed, sanded and painted:

Absolutely amazing...and I can honestly say our dads share a passion for RC airplanes....my dad loves building them almost as much as he does flying them. (our garage and shop are taking over by his "creations" everything from single engine to 4 engine most from scratch, and all gas.

wow man, the color may not match up 100%, but it honestly looks like it belongs their with the texturing that was added. Thats crazy.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

thanks guys. Just got back from checking things out - put the bezel in the truck with the rest of the pieces. The color is close but not 100%. It's too light (not enough brown in it) and you can tell something is off. I am going to see if I can find a closer match and if so, sand, re-texture then repaint. I guess before I do that, I'll paint some scrap first to test it out.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

Heres the bezel in the truck - might be hard to tell, but in the day light, the color is off - you can tell it doesn't belong. I'm gonna try and find a closer match and repaint.

started finishing up the dvd drive:

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

I can never find vinyl to match my truck. It pisses me off.

That looks great though, even though the paint may be off, the lines and flow are perfect!

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

Nice work!

I would like to do something similar to this in my truck, mainly for datalogging and tuning purposes so it would all be right there in the truck and all I'd need to do is use a jump drive to transfer files from it to a PC and so on. Very interesting. I've got some defected NBS center console pieces laying around, maybe I should look into this.

The color may not be perfect, but I think the stock panels in my truck have more variance. Nice work mang!

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

thanks for all the compliments and encouragement - it has definitely helped in keeping me motivated over the last 6 months! Today I am heading over and gonna sand out all the nastiness in the dvd drive and maybe get a good coat of paint on it. Pics to follow.

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

sorry for the lack of updates - holidays and I've had to go back to work - well the office anyway.

the pictures don't really show it, but with the bezel in the truck, you can tell it's off. I've since found a new color and painted, just need to touch up one more place - of course now it's too cold. I need to stick in and see how well it blends with the rest of the dash.

Got the dvd drive done, might put one more coat of clear in it.

Next I need to get all the software installed and configured and then later this month my nephew is coming down to help with the install. He's 13 and wants to learn how to build a computer, so I figured this would be a good experience for him.

Why's yours at a halt?

Re: FINALLY installing 10.4" TS and carputer

Everyone has projects they've deemed more important for me to be doing. I think in an entire 2 weeks off I only had time to do about 10-minutes worth of filler on it.
