JBL GTO755.6... Opinions...
I'm preparing for my 'HoePuter install this winter, and I'm not planning on running an HU, other than the computer, and therefore, I'm in need of a decent amp for my front stage, and I would like to run active, so I'm looking at a 4-channel amp. I'm in need of some expertise on this subject... The main goal is SQ. As for now, they will be pushing a set of Crystal sccw6.5"s, but in the future will be pushing the Mid/Tweet on an active 3-way. I'm also not object to running 2 amps for mids/tweets either... And then adding another for mid bass later...
And then I come across this amp...
JBL Grand Touring GTO755.6 -- $399
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...556&c=3&tp=115
I'm not sure on the quality, but the options are great for what I'm looking at doing. I'd be able to run my front stage active, and bridge two channels for the Dayton HO I'm going to run temporarily, and then use those two channels on the mid bass.
What I want to know is what the opinions are on this amp, and if I should be looking at another route???

It will be fine, big but fine. Beware the "sub" channels on that amp only go to 200hz IIRC (could be 300 or something) which might limit your midbass selections.

So, what you're saying is that my mid selection down the line would have to play down to 200hz, effectively?
I'm not thinking that will be too much of an issue... Size shouldn't be too much of an issue either. Only thing I've hauled so far is an umbrella.

Re: JBL GTO755.6... Opinions...
I really meant to say midbass/midrange selection. Do check on the spec on the amp as well as it has been a couple years since I looked at one.
I know the size isn't a big deal, but wanted to warn you as they look smaller than they are in pictures.
Other than that I have nothing bad at all to say about those amps and have almost bought some JBL's myself many times.

From Crutchfield's site:
"variable high- and low-pass filters on channels 1-4, low-pass only on sub channels (32-320 Hz, 12 dB per octave)"

Yep on JBL's website it says that 302Hz is the -3dB point on that channel. I assume that is 320hz as a typo, but still the roll off might make it usable not quite as high as you like, but at least its verified. Still should go high enough to blend some SLS or Extremis nicely with a 4" midrange.

Re: JBL GTO755.6... Opinions...
Ha.
The Extremis is no longer in production, it was made by Adire but pound for pound in the 7" realm it has by far the most midbass out of pretty much any driver I have ever heard or seen tested. XBL2 on a mid and it does its thing. They came in 4 or 8 ohm versions and are available used. If you can only do a 7, it is the one to pick but don't expect any useful information out of it above 300hz or so.
The SLS is right here:
http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...9aa7eb22806ec4
Also a great midbass usable up to at least 250hz.

Re: JBL GTO755.6... Opinions...
I'm planning on going with 8" drivers mounted IB in the door in the future... As for the drivers, I'm still unsure, and have a few other projects taking precedence... Namely the HoePuter.

Re: JBL GTO755.6... Opinions...
For the buck, and beyond that SLS is a hell of a midbass.
