The 'Hoe Install... work log

I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and tear into the Tahoe, and do my HoePuter install, along with a bit of freshening up on the system as well!

Phase One:
--computer--
Screen: Shark 10.4" TS (Samsung panel); GoodDeals18.com; mp3car.com - discussion
Motherboard/CPU: Intel BLKD201GLYL w/Celeron 215 processor (1.3Ghz) NewEgg.com; mp3car.com - discussion; mp3car.com - store; Intel.com - updates/specs
Power Supply: DSATX 220W mp3car.com - store; ShortCircuit.com - store; mpegBox.com - specs
--I'll probably go with the RS232 serial adapter as well; ShortCircuit.com - Store
Memory: 1gig Crucial
HDD: Hitachi TravelStar 120gig 5200rpm note: requires adapter to IDE: http://store.mp3car.com/Notebook_HD_..._p/adt-001.htm
CD/DVD: Pioneer DVD-R/CD-R slim slot-load combo drive note: requires adapter to IDE: http://store.mp3car.com/Slim_Line_Ty..._p/adt-008.htm
Sound Card: On Board
Video Card: On Board
Front End: CentraFuse, as of now
--audio--
Front Stage: Crystal sscw 6.5 components
Rear Stage: NONE
Sub: Dayton HO 10" in a ported .7ft^3 box tuned in the low 30's; PartsExpress.com
Amp: JBL GTO755.6II 6-channel; Crutchfield.com; SonicElectronics.com; FSC.com - discussion

The above parts have been purchased, and most are in-possession, and a few are en route to my door. I'm planning on getting this setup up-and-running out of the 'Hoe, in the shop before any of this enters the vehicle.

The plan is for a new F/G center console to house DC-DC, mobo, TS, fans, cupholders, a bit of storage, etc. I'm doing a full HU delete, and I'm planning on running a JBL 6-channel amp for the front stage (2-way, active) and the rear channels bridged for the sub, until phase 2 on the upgrade begins!

I still have the DC-DC power supply to pick out, as well as my FM tuner, and decide on any wireless connections. I'll post up my work as it comes along, but don't hold your breath on progress, as I rarely have time for my own projects!

Phase Two:
--computer--
Same as above, possibly adding rear screen (non-TS)
Sound Card: New... As to what...
Video Card: Depends on if another screen is added
--audio--
Front Stage: 3-way active ran off the JBL 6-channel
-Mid Bass: looking at SLS 8" in the doors; MadiSound.com
-Mid: ???. Probably in the kicks.
-Tweets: ???. Probably in the kicks.
Rear Stage: NONE!
Sub: Dayton HO
--extras--
Fusion Brain

Phase 3:
Adding serious bass. Sub(s) unknown, but probably gonna be fairly serious.

I know some of the other members on here are running CarPuters, so feel free to chime in on anything!

I haven't nailed down the front end for sure yet... I just like the looks of it best. In the end, I want to write my own, but such as everything else, that takes time!

I'm getting close to having to pick one and I still don't know which one I'm leaning towards.

Re: The 'Hoe Install... **work log**

From what I've seen, I don't think a person can go wrong with CF, RR, or SD. All three of those are great, and loaded with functions. There's many others I've played with, and liked, but the support is always going to be better with the big 3. Personally, I always thought FrodoPlayer was cool, but the support has gone to zero on that.

Another thought on the front ends is that I might switch to RoadRunner, just for the simple fact that the Fusion Brain (http://www.fusioncontrolcentre.com/F...alog/index.php) is setup to run with RR. This little item is something I want to get integrated into the system as soon as possible to replace my HVAC controls, lighting, amp power, and a few other items! I've talked to the guys who developed this, and they were very supportive of letting go of source code or working with someone on developing stuff with them, and they provide the needed documentation for developing your own wrapper for control of this!

Re: The 'Hoe Install... **work log**

Got to do a little with it this weekend...

An idea for the location...

Glassing a mold to glass to, to mesh up nicely with the lower dash...

The screen installed...

More to come...

Re: The 'Hoe Install... **work log**

And here's a few pics of the sub/enclosure I'm going to be installing soon... Dayton HO 10", tuned in the lower 30's. A little sub, for a lot of cabin, but I've been impressed with it so far!

I've had it done forever, but I've just been too lazy to wire the 'Hoe up for it, so it has just sat in the shop collecting dust.

Re: The 'Hoe Install... **work log**

Just checked on UPS's site, and it looks like the mobo/CPU, memory, and hard drive have been delivered!

Slot-drive DVD/CD are scheduled for delivery tomorrow! The CD is what will be holding me up on doing too much more fabrication below what I have done already, because I kinda need it there to figure out where to mount it. My original plan was directly below the TS, but with the angles I chose to put the TS at, I'm thinking the real estate in that area might be a bit tight. I've contemplated putting it in the OEM-CD slot as well, which seems like a decent enough place, but then running the IDE cable might be a bit more of a bish.

Does anyone know if they make a radio delete pocket for the OBS's? Basically, a 1.5 DIN pocket to go where the radio usually resides.

So far, I've been running it on one of the older computers in my room, and it's worked flawlessly. I hooked it up to the el cheapo DVD in the shop using an S-video in and it had a nice picture there as well. The only complaint I would have on it is that the drivers for the TS portion have issues with the version of XP on my dev box, and I never could get the installation to go through on that box. As for the other two boxes I've tested it on, it's worked great. Hopefully, tonight I'll be able to get XP (MCE) on the new HDD and see how everything runs on the new mobo/CPU as well.
